A hotel check-in platform used by several hotels in Japan exposed more than 1 million sensitive customer records, including passports, driver’s licenses, and selfie verification photos, after a cloud storage system was left publicly accessible on the internet without password protection.

The affected system, called Tabiq, is operated by Japan-based startup Reqrea. The platform uses facial recognition and document scanning technology to automate hotel guest check-ins.

Yeah I forsee no obvious issues with this.

  • I can maybe piggyback on your question as I was just wondering myself if there is any page that summarizes how many other instances a lemmy instance is blocking plus how many other instances are blocking that instance. Not sure I wrote this very elegantly.

Basically I know you go to a instance homepage and you can go see which ones they are blocking on some subpage somewhere. But you obviously cannot see a list of which ones are blocking this instance? Or is this the same?

  • Startrek.website was the first instance I chose years ago coming from Reddit.

I abandoned it because I noticed mods (or admins?) deleting seemingly random stuff and opinions without much explanation. Took me a while to catch it because I remembered seeing this one post and then later in the day it was just gone, no reference to anything in the modlog.

Obviously just anecdotal evidence and my own subjective experience, but I had Startrek.website on my personal blocklist ever since. I see now that wasn't transferred when I made this account on Piefed, ah well, here we go again.

  • If anyone does this, rather make a separate library and put all the kids stuff there. Keeps it neatly separate and then the kid account only has access to that. No need to rely on age limits to be correct.

  • Yeah, that is the only point that actually resonates with me.

  • Maybe it's just anything Greek. I remember reading a comment chain right here on Lemmy like 6 months ago, something about a thing/machine/software named Prometheus. One commenter wondered why they'd name themselves after an Alien movie.

  • Fun fact: Latte in German is slang for erection.

  • I never really needed any justification, but ever since AI companies just take stuff illegally, and that openly, it has become my justification to just pirate the shit out of everything.

(Excluding indie games of developers I like).

  • It's work horses vs racing horses. How is that even funny?

  • Wtf

  • Sure but, if that really is the case the dev could just go ahead and... say... that? It could have been a transparent declaration or they could have made this at least "opt out". But instead it was done in the back, not documented or justified in any way.

  • Lmao, nice tag.

  • Is this Boblin the goblin?

  • If you are not using it, sure. Otherwise it'd be pretty stupid.

  • I got one like 2 years ago for probably the same price it has been since release. You didn't need to get it in the very beginning for a good price, you had to get it before this year.

  • I'll contrast your opinion by saying they look all terrible. I mean the basketball is funny but who wants to see that every day on their computer.

  • "Bought", I mean the money never existed or did it?

  • This should be a gif
