i've actually been thinking whether there could maybe be some kind of machine-wrestling. i.e. fights for show or competition or sth, similar to the olympic games, but purely involving machines. drones and such

i think this is about toxic gases emissions vs CO2 emissions. while CO2 emissions have probably gone up somewhat (my guesstimate is +30% since 1970), the toxic gas emissions have almost completely gone to zero. there was a whole lot more toxic gases around in the 20th century industry and machinery, you had to cough constantly, we just don't remember it because it's comparatively clean now.
They do not seem to be claiming it is more energy efficient, but rather that the technology has a much lower Global Warming Potential overall than currently used refrigerants.

actually i do sometimes think that life is in some sense a drama (theater stage), and what we perform is often at least as important as what we actually do in reality.
i.e. there's a whole lot of symbolic interactions throughout the day. for example every time that we speak to someone. it doesn't change reality, but another person's mind, so it's a symbolic interaction.
"unrealized assets" absolutely can be taxed, i.e. we know how much a company share is worth even if you didn't sell it yet, because there's something called the stock market where other people agree on the current value of the shares. so we can use that as a reference value.
and these other people have a high incentive to get the estimate correct, because there's lots of money to be made from estimating a more accurate valuation.
I'm actually thinking that maybe, a higher wealth tax can only be implemented with a simultaneous restriction of free trade.
Like, you could always easily evade a wealth tax if you can just push your things out of the country, and into another country where they aren't taxed (assuming that these things are movable). So, the only way to effectively implement a wealth tax is to restrict the free movement of objects around?
Or alternatively, if only company shares are taxed, then they should be taxed independently of whether the person owning them is on the inside or outside of the country.
hmm yeah i see where you are coming from. the thing with "poisoning the well" is a real issue, and i'm wondering what strategies would be effective in preventing it? eventually a free discussion platform is needed, but it has to let the spirit flow freely or we're never getting anywhere. things only happen when people feel like it, and you can't force people to feel something.
i have also written here about how mastodon is more user-centric (because you follow users) while lemmy is more topic-centered (because you follow topic-oriented communities).
now i conjecture that maybe mastodon is more closely appropriate for location-specific content? because you can have one mastodon instance per city, to see all the stuff there (all contributing users) in a wild, mixed feed. and as is usual in a city, you might have specific people that you know well that you would like to hear more stuff from. meanwhile on lemmy, emphasizing individual users is a bit more difficult and less easy to do.
so i'm wondering whether there's a correlation between user-centricism and location-centricism, versus topic-centricism.
this might be an abstract thought but idk whether you can understand it?
