  • It's hard to really call Valve a monopoly when, there is competition. If there's no competition, then Valve would clearly be a monopoly.

It's not like back in the 90s when Microsoft bundled their Windows OS with Internet Explorer that edged out Netscape back then. Because there really wasn't a lot of browser alternatives available to have made it where competition was there. Microsoft was considered a monopoly back then because competition was very little during their peak then.

In the digital PC gaming landscape, it's entirely different. There are numerous marketplaces for digital games. And they're big enough to where Valve is just simply an alternative and can go without if someone chooses.

Valve doesn't force anyone to use Steam or strong-arms people to buy games from them. They just exist, the people have spoken both by their own loyalty and their wallets. And that made companies like Epic mad and jealous. They just came late into the game when Valve was developing itself.

  • No. Because, I don't want to hear the complaints if someone's favorite program doesn't run on a distro and they have to find an alternative. I also don't want to be someone's tech support if anything goes wrong.

  • I don't fucking care.

It's just one big event to see how much commercialization can be crammed down people's throats. The Commercial Bowl isn't too far away either.

  • No, not per day, that's costly for me. Not per week either. I just know what I cut out that simplifies my shopping.

I don't go and buy snacks, for example. Do I really need fruit juice? No I don't, because that shit is unhealthy for you. Do I really need crackers? No. Do I really need to buy tons of frozen processed foods? No, but it is moderate.

Plus the real thing is, is that I do make meals from pasta dishes. I make that last.

  • You can stretch your meals and if you decide to, pile on the rations. It's not that hard.

  • ...Okay?

  • Yeah it is. But Epic is sounding like they never take a pay cut. Only, they still do. The way it works is, is that for the first 6 months, Epic allows a developer 100% of their revenue. Afterwards, they take 12%. But they also offer 0% revenue share on the first million earned on a game by a developer.

The issue really is that Epic makes it sound like they never take a pay cut, when they do, it just works differently.

  • Hey you're the one who made the opinion in the first place, the ball is in your court on this one.

The statement is clear as day for you, I'm not spelling it out.

  • He's also Tencent's removed too.

  • Epic is irrelevant because Epic has not given anyone a single solitary reason to use their launcher and platform. Tim Sweeny loves the smell of his own shit in the morning after he takes a big wet dump in the toilet. So much so, he doesn't even flush for a while.

That launcher of theirs has a knack of sucking out all of your system resources, namely bandwidth and CPU, just to download games. Meanwhile, Valve gives you so many options to work around that.

  • I would say they aren't.

Because, they aren't like Epic, who has been going around and locking games behind exclusivity deals. Name me one game by one developer, who Valve went to and was like "hey, I'm going to give you a $5 Million exclusivity deal. I'd like for your game to be available on our Steam platform for 2 years before you're allowed to sell anywhere else!"

I'm sure nobody can find that game. Meanwhile, Epic has done this to Metro: Exodus, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 for the PC and outright buying studios going "hey, delist your game on Steam and only be available to our platform."

How the fuck can that broad be so stupid to not notice that? But it's all Valve's fault, somehow.

  • Exactly.

And she's one of those who is doing it "for the children". So, one of those disgusting beings who hides behind children to get anything she wants done.

  • That...still doesn't make sense.

They waste money anyways. They have to be spending a lot to developers who are willing to have their games be given away for free.

Let them spend and waste on that, as well as just the sheer volume of bothering to stay in business. They must also be spending a lot to get so many licenses on Fortnite too. That's far more wasting than just bandwidth.

  • It is effective. The only reason you may feel that it isn't effective, is because larger groups of people aren't doing it.

Sure, 50 some odd people who decide to not shop at Amazon, you sneeze at that.

But if 100,000 or a million people, decided not to shop Amazon. Yeah that's going to have an effect and it'll say something.

  • It's not that Capital encourages it. There's a saying I've heard where, everyone is one medical emergency or one car repair away from being kicked to the streets. That's the reality of nearly everyone's lives who has been pushed to paycheck to paycheck. The only ones who're not complaining and don't have to deal with this, are those well-off who can afford going to hospitals and can afford to have their vehicles repaired over anything.

Life has a tendency to have unforeseen consequences and unforeseen expectations. I mean, it is NOT fun to run out of your essentials where you're hoping for a lucky break, just so you can afford them, for just another week or two. It is NOT fun to basically eat the same stuff, over and over, because it's all you can afford. When, you just want to taste something different, just something different for once to have a little variety.

You can never be completely comfortable. Even if you've caught up on said essentials, you're always worrying about for how long.

  • $35 ~ $75. I shop reasonably for one person and that person is me. I don't understand why people spend so big when they're the only ones living at home.

  • The role of the government is to be at the service of the people.

To serve the interests of the people, to protect the people's rights, to watch the back of the people so they're not taken advantage of. That's why we have elections, to vote people in because it is their sworn duty of oath to be at the service of the people in office, domestically and internationally.

  • Yeah but don't publishers/developers also have the options to not partake in sales? I think they do, otherwise we'd see every game on the market all going for a sale.

  • I don't know why people feel the need to weirdly flex about how they do this. What you're saying is, you've wasted time making an account at all, going through the process of checking what game will be free next, then processing the order to get free game.

So, good for you on wasting time and effort? While most of us just simply don't bother with Epic's launcher, market and them in general.
