What to choose between Lemmy, Mbin and PieFed, features-wise?

What to choose between Lemmy, Mbin and PieFed, features-wise? Since users and communities are equally accessible, I just need to know what are the pros and cons of them, I really can’t figure it out without a extensive time of use @fediverse@lemmy.world

Sharkey doesn’t fetche replies to Lemmy comments

Sharkey doesn’t fetche replies to Lemmy comments I interact with Lemmy using my account on a Sharkey instance. It all works well except you only see direct comments to you post, while replies to them are not visible except you look at your post on a Lemmy instance I’m not sure if federation with Lemmy has this issue with other software, however I may have seen a Lemmy post made by a Mastodon account, and replies were visible when seeing the post from the original Mastodon instance. So this may be something related to -key softwares @fediverse@lemmy.world

What hardware do you use for Nextcloud?

What hardware do you use for Nextcloud? I’m willing to finally get my own cloud using #Nextcloud but I have zero clue about which hardware I should choose for home storage. It would be used for domestic stuff, such as photos, music, movies and files, for the whole family, not necessarily for work

Do you know Fediverse bots/accounts boosting posts in other languages than English?
  • @InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world that’s right, I’m just focusing on accounts boosting because it’s a very good way to discover people you wouldn’t see otherwise, as they may boost from networks outside your reach. And since communities speaking different languages can be more separated, that’s a good way to ho imho

Do you know Fediverse bots/accounts boosting posts in other languages than English? My personal feed is heavily English-centred, I’d like to possibly get posts in other languages and have a wider perspective @fediverse@lemmy.world

    Salt domes

Salt domes I don’t know if this is common knowledge. Basically, underground in the deep of the Earth crust there is often a layer of salt rock, formed when salted water basins evaporated multiple times and get buried by sediments, slowly sinking into the crust due to tectonic activity. Well, since salt rock has a much lower density than the surrounding rocks, it behaves exactly as a liquid. All around the globe, from the salt layer, immense bubbles and columns of salt called diapirs slowly move upwards, much like magma does, passing through layers of rock and bending them. Where the bended layers touch the salt diapir some cavities form, making place to petroleum and natural gas to concentrate. On the surface, the bending of the rock layers is detectable through formations like hills but also depressions, created by the subsiding of the hill or by corrosion action by elements. Where salt domes are found, humans open salt mines and build drilling plants to extract the underground hydrocarbons.

Please note that salt domes are a lot, like if the underground salt basins around the world “boiled” through the crust. If you look up the Zagro mountains in Iran and look at the southernmost part, you can easily spot from the satellite dozens of circular hills all of similar size, some of all even show so-called salt glaciers originated by salt coming out from the crust. Those are all salt diapers pushing the crust and creating hills, and even islands in the Persian Gulf

Currently, can you see #boosts on your #Pixelfed timeline?
  • @baronvonj@lemmy.world as far as I know, that number shows the number of shares. It is not an indication that you are seeing that post because it was boosted tho.
The thing is, if I follow a user and that user boosts a post from someone I’m not following, that post is supposed to show up in my TL, in the same way as any other Fediverse platform. However that doesn’t happen. I tested it: on Pixelfed home TL you only see posts from users you follow, you don’t see boosts of posts made by users you’re not following. And since the purpose of boosting is to let you know new people, that’s a really big bummer

  • Currently, can you see #boosts on your #Pixelfed timeline?

Currently, can you see #boosts on your #Pixelfed timeline? On Pixelfed.social and other instances it seems like boosts are hidden. So you can share posts in Pixelfed and users using softwares like Mastodon or Misskey will see your boost, but from Pixelfed you won’t see them both from Pixelfed users and Fediverse users, and regardless if you activated them in the settings or use a different client. There are no official news about it so I’m trying to understand if this has something to do with Pixelfed as a software, with specific instances or specific accounts

How should I be accessing the fediverse to get the most "federated" experience
  • @3dmvr@lemm.ee well this is a post from a Sharkey instance, I see your post because I follow this community (which appears to me as a user boosting lemmy posts)
Also I’ve already posted on lemmy directly from my instance, I just have to tag the community I want to post into, and I receive replies as well.
It’s not perfect but it’s extremely helpful and cool

  • Pixelfed user count has gone vertical.
  • @rglullis@communick.news tbh we shouldn't expect the adoption curve of any Fediverse software to be somewhat similar to the ones of centralised social networks, since Fediverse completely misses the commercial aspect that encourage key users to stay in the platform easing communities to stick to it as well. My guess is that without the action of commercial dynamics, the situation wouldn't be so different from the jumps-and-losses moments we're used to
