Yeah, this is part of what had me a bit confused. I'm on lemmy, and in addition there're different apps/readers for different instances? I just downloaded the top choice from the app store (Boost for lemmy). But they all talk to each other? And as far as I understood, you can also interact with for instance Mastodon which is an alternative to Twitter?
