TIL that "nginx" is pronounced "engine-x", and not "n-jinx"
  • first rule of english pronunciation: there are no rules. All that matters is if people understand what you mean when you say it.

I gave up on this discussion when you have to consider gin, generate, giraffe, gene, gym, etc

Also I pronounce it with the soft sound because that's what it sounds like in the bloody alphabet.

  • nothing phone (2a): aged like milk.
    • Battery performance took a dive after the Nothing OS 3 update (8.5-12 hours to barely 8 hours).

    • Photos seem LQ despite having two 50MP cameras

    • Noticeable green tint at low brightness settings probably due to LQ OLES displays.

    • Grievances with Nothing's update philosophy where they seem to:

      • update the (a) models first before flagship
      • not optimise performance, and
      • anecdotally make previous model's performance (camera) worse
    • Frustrated with the fact that they seem to releasing the 3a before the 3.

    • Likes the glyph system

    • still recommends for the price range but does not recommend for a "good experience"

  • I'm not good at this life thing.
  • Jogging got me into eating regularly and destressor (I visualised as which is going to win - a 5k run or my mood/frustration).

if your anger wins, you finish the 5k in record time (next time go farther). Most of the time I just finish the run feeling less stressed and more able to tackle the issue with a clear mind without the mood.

Now I actually have legit reason to feel tired and friends/family look at me as an athlete for just doing 5k. There's a lot of benefits but just make sure to go at your own pace/growth and not compare to others.

  • scrulevy
  • Our ancestors presumed we wouldn't be stupid enough to stop eating fruit and didn't bother specing into vitaman C production.

They also presumed we wouldn't sail the seas for long distances with only salted meats and booze so jokes on them 👈👈

  • Exit Light! Enter Night!
  • Sounds good - it's important to get those 8 hours and listening to your body (avoiding screens when you can during dark hours since that'll fuck around your circadian rhythm).

Sometimes you can get away with 6 hours in total if you haven't been overexerting yourself. I found that I slept like 9 -10 hours uninterrupted after exhaustive days but taking the naps and ensuring I have good sleep hygiene leads to me feel great with only 8 segemented sleep.

  • Exit Light! Enter Night!
  • 9 to 5 sucks ass.

You gotta listen to your body and take that powernap when you can (already made a previous comment about how the human body isn't built to do strict wake-sleep cycles, it's natural to have 2 separate sleeps in the same night, and historically people from early morning to noon since the sun is too harsh by then). I generally found taking a 15 minute nap after a meal is enough to get me through the rest of the day. Though it's insane that corpos expect anything more than 60% effort after 2pm when most have been up since 6am.

Take your hours back, they won't give it back to you.

  • Our bodies, our tormentors
  • ymmv but I found walking around, having some water, and doing something menial task (cleaning up the room or dishes) and actively avoiding screens usually leads me to feel sleepy after 15-30 minutes..

Humans aren't really designed for full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep (nor 16 hours of full wakefulness but I'm fortunate enough that I can take naps in the afternoon) so don't be hard on yourself if one happens to wake up in the middle of the night. It's natural (like afternoon naps). The biggest issue is screens/activities that are designed to keep you alert and a societal lifestyle that demands a strict wake-sleep cycle.

  • Rule three things that aren't Jackie Chan
  • An animated kung-fu martial artist monkey

    A super cop

A chinese native that travels overseas to America and teams up with either Owen Wilson or Chris Tucker look-a-likes to save another Chinese native, generally a young woman.

  • 'Let us disable that garbage': Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players hate the new skins so much that some are asking to pay for them to be removed
  • I really dislike being reductive so take what I say with a grain of salt:

I am not surprised that the people who regularly buy the COD series with all of it's monetary practices for the past decade are asking to buy a feature. They'd be more shocked if you could features/updates/qol without buying it. Habituation, de-sensitisation, whatever - they're the whales that fuel the decline in AAA games.

  • Is Lemmy your "main social media app"? If not, which one is it?
  • Similar situation. I quickly glance between Lemmy and Mastodon and only use old.reddit when I'm on my PC (just realised I hadn't really used it since I've been making an effort to engage with the manga communities on lemmy) . All my friends and favourite artists seem to use Instagram so I only use it out of necessity for messaging and quick inspirations (I tried using Cara but I found the app somewhat slow and disliked that it wasn't federated, so I could see it having a very low lifespan. I saw it as a poor move for artists to move to it solely on the promise of being "anti-AI" without any redundancies that a de-federated option would have)

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • There was a mass exodus of Escapist writers (including Yahtzee) and formed Second Wind. Been watching a lot more of their stuff since they left the Escapist outside of Yahtzee

  • Nintendo made a music streaming app for Switch Online subscribers
  • I initially agreed with you but after watching the demo, it has some game-related features that I'd imagine would be hard to implement in other applications such as:

    • Choosing the length of looping songs from 15, 30, to and hour which is ideal for background music.
    • Spoiler Free options where you can choose certain games to avoid being recommended/listen to.

Don't have Nintendo Online (only got it for Splatoon 3) but this product should've come out years ago when they introduced Nintendo Online.
