Hi!
Let's be nice to each other.
Mystery surrounds reported ‘death’ of Lil Tay, Vancouver teen who shot to fame on social media | Globalnews.ca
Vancouver police said Thursday that they have not received any report of her death and are not investigating.
Sounds like someone wasn't getting attention anymore and decided to find a way to stir some shit up.
Thanks for taking the time to dive into this. Do any of those racist books not contravene Canadian laws about distribution of hate speech?
Pride Parade 2023 - Aug 6th Noon to 3 PM
Other pride things this weekend include Van Pride Fest at Concord Pacific Place: https://www.vancouverpride.ca/vanpridefest
Very interesting! I dug even further and found the description of the test: https://atts.org/tt-test-description/
Didn't we convert a lot of the 2010 facilities to other recreation centres already? Like Hillcrest - used to host curling, I believe, but now it's part pool.
Caribbean Days Festival - July 29th & 30th in Coquitlam
Each July, Caribbean Days Festival returns to Coquitlam BC's Town Centre Park for the summer's hottest weekend. Carnival Parade, Reggae, Soca & Calypso music
Walking distance from Lafarge Lake/Douglas, apparently.
New West Car Free Day - July 29th
Car Free Days is an internationally recognized movement that is celebrated in major cities across the globe. These free, inclusive street festivals will take place in six locations this summer… all presented by Translink!
I just thought VP at tech was the same as VP at finance. That is to say, meaningless.
I took a peek at my local sub and a thread asking about a car incident was full of one-liner jokes voted to the top. It was about 2/3 down before I saw an attempt at a real answer and even further down still before anyone wondered if the occupants were OK.
Sat July 22nd - Design Tour of the Chinatown Memorial Plaza
I'm otherwise occupied that day, but I'm very interested in what this part of the discussion entails:
Located next to 105 Keefer site where a billionaire real estate developer, Beedie, plans to build gentrifier condos, the Chinatown Memorial Plaza is a significant cultural landmark in the heart of Chinatown that honours the sacrifices of Chinese Canadian railway workers and veterans. During the tour, you'll gain insights into the plaza's original design concept, context, and significance, and why Beedie's 105 Keefer condo project will negatively impact the plaza.

You don't find that the fruits and vegetables from Walmart expire so much faster than from other grocery stores? It's especially bad when we had it delivered by instacart because they just didn't care and would grab the first thing they see rather than pick through it like I would. And of course that's what you expect because they're not the ones eating it.
Hm, so that means if we switch from dairy to plant based milks and reduce our beef consumption, that should temper our expenses. I don't think our family is ready to go full vegetarian though. What is the situation with chicken and pork?
Reporting back after having Craffles on Davie. It was pretty good! But the seating is a bit cramped inside so I'd prob just order a simple waffle to go and take it across the park to eat.
What is your income to expense ratio?
Surrey Fusion Festival - Sat & Sun July 22nd & 23rd
The ultimate celebration of food, music and culture in the heart of Surrey.
Walking distance from Surrey Central and the best part is that it's a free thing to do!
I recently went down to Point Roberts to get something that's not sold in Canada but before that the last time I went was in 2017, so I can't even blame COVID. As I age, time becomes a more precious commodity than money, so either I live without that thing or I pay a premium to have it sent from a mail forwarding service.
Ian Tootill with Sense BC thinks the Idaho Stop would have support in the Lower Mainland, where many people use their bikes to commute and are already using the practice.
Basically if everyone is already doing it, why not make it law that it's ok?
It's not like there were any cops out enforcing the current law. Has anyone ever seen a bicycle get pulled over? I've never seen it either as a pedestrian nor a driver.
A lot of the DT brunch places are packed on the weekends but pretty empty on the weekdays. Especially true post-covid when we don't even have much of the office crowd. You yourself was looking at the restaurant instead of eating in it!
If Metro Vancouver don't have it, you think it's worth the drive out to Mission to have a taste?
There’s a place on Robson across from the library that used to always have lines. I always figured they got on some list of “best place for waffles” or something.
Le Petit Belge? It's... ok. Not worth waiting in line for on the weekends but if it's a short wait on the weekdays it's decent.
I guess I like them a bit crispy but fluffy on the inside.
What is your favourite place for waffles?
I've tried Nero and remain unimpressed. The mochi waffle at Canffle is pretty good though!

Here is the section on roommates titled Rights and Responsibilities of Co-tenants in the "RESIDENTIAL TENANCY POLICY GUIDELINE"
Read it carefully because if you want to bring this to arbitration later, you will have had to follow the guidelines there.
Probably the most relevant section for you:
In a monthly or periodic tenancy, when a tenant serves the landlord with a written notice to end tenancy, the effective date of the notice must be at least one month after the landlord receives the notice and on the day before rent is due. If the tenant gives proper notice to end the tenancy, the tenancy agreement will end on the effective date of that notice and all tenants must move out, even where the notice has not been signed by all tenants. When a tenant has ended the tenancy by giving written notice, all co-tenants remain responsible for meeting the terms of the tenancy agreement until the effective date of the notice. Co-tenants wishing to remain in the rental unit after a notice to end the tenancy has been given should discuss the situation with the landlord. If the landlord agrees to the tenant staying, the landlord and tenant must enter into a new written tenancy agreement.

Recap Star Trek Enterprise season 3
::: spoiler spoiler
In Season 3 of Star Trek: Enterprise, the series takes a bold and dramatic shift in storytelling, departing from its episodic format and embracing a serialized narrative arc. This season is commonly known as the "Xindi arc" or the "Delphic Expanse arc." Here's a recap of the main events:
The season begins with a continuation from the Season 2 finale. Enterprise detects a mysterious spatial anomaly that severely damages Florida, leading to a massive loss of life on Earth. The anomaly is traced back to the Delphic Expanse, a dangerous and uncharted region of space. Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew are tasked with finding and neutralizing the threat.
Archer and the crew discover that a species called the Xindi is responsible for th
Vancouver Chinatown Festival July 15th & 16th
The annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival, organized by the Vancouver Chinatown BIA Society (VCBIA), is a free 2-day community family event.
Is it really the 21st instance of this event happening??? I need to show up at the info booth and interrogate them about this.
I'd be interested in seeing how this shakes down. The article was written with some sort of "look what the government does to business owners" vibe to it so I have my heckles up.
TIL The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary Exists
Whenever people talked about "the bird sanctuary in Delta", I just assumed they meant OWL. It turns out there two bird sanctuaries! Today I also learned Westham Island exists!
Minicomi Art Market - Sat Jul 8th 11 AM to 6 PM
If you're visiting that area, there is also the Polygon Gallery, MONOVA, and a nice walk down to the park side of the waterfront (literally called "Waterfront Park") on the west.
I would have Sharky's in Lonsdale Quay for lunch, and then a 10 min walk uphill to Cream Pony for desert! 🤤
Vancouver Bubble Tea Festival this weekend! (July 7th to 9th)
Canada’s largest bubble tea festival is located in Metro Vancouver. It’s an annual event that brings you boba tea (aka bubble tea, pearl milk tea), street food, performances and lots of fun every summer
Price of admission seems a bit steep but our family will still probably check it out. It's something to do together.
TIL the Arbutus tree is the only native broadleaf evergreen tree in Canada and is only grown in the south of BC

Things to do on Canada Day
Tegan & Sara are playing Canada Place this year
The Vancouver Special
I really enjoy seeing the rehabbed ones in East Van. Most of those seem to have been updated to actual duplexes + coach house vs main house and basement suite.
Congrats to dragonboat racers at Olympic Village this weekend
Good luck to the teams racing today!
Greek Day on Broadway - June 25th 2023
Welcome to Greek Day on Broadway, Vancouver's largest Greek Festival! Greek Day on Broadway is an annual community street festival which spans multiple blocks throughout Vancouver's Kitsilano neighbourhood in the heart of Vancouver's Greektown.
I always attended pre-Covid. If the weather is nice, it's something to do.
