My hobbies and interests include (but are not limited to) motorcycles, mycology, writing, reading, craftsmanship, and computing. 🥰

  • I share Linus Torvalds' view on AI for programming: it is a tool, a very useful one at that, but like all tools it needs someone who knows how to use it to use it effectively.

    This response is approaching AI as a technology, not "Big AI" and it's miriad of ethical issues. A purely technical viewpoint.

    There is ambiguity on this blog post as to whether Claude wrote the whole thing from scratch or it took an assistive role; I have nothing against purely agentic coding, or vibe-coding, but for something as crucial as your display server, I don't trust even the leading frontier models for that yet.

    This person's concept of developing, or at least designing (as is my preferred term when referring to agentically-written programs), all their software is very cool and has inspired me to contemplate some of my own tools. But again, I don't think I'll be writing my own X server or Wayland compositor anytime soon.

  • Sure, but there are other facets of our architecture that tend to lock-in heat:

    • Low ceilings
    • Thick ston/brick or timber-framed + insulated walls.
    • Closed-plan layouts with many internal doors to compartmentalise our homes.
    • Double or triple glazed windows.

    In contrast to hotter countries such as the USA which has higher ceilings, thinner walls, and more open floorplans.

  • AC is not a thing here. Our houses were built when the climate was correct, and we needed to keep heat in.

    That's why we complain about heatwaves that bring us the same temperatures as the US experiences, we don't have respite.

    It’s in the damn title “a little slommy”.

    No her diet is not 100% fatty processed salty cold cuts.

    She is an exceptionally healthy cat, always has been, very active outdoors and showing no signs of ageing despite being 13 this year. Rarely ever had to take her to the vet, the worst we get is some knots in her fur sometimes.

  • I setup an account with Anne on the 29th April, I never considered the NHS because of wait times and their contract with Palantir.

    Overall though this has been a year in the making, new college, new course, new job, new name. I am a new person compared to me a year ago.
