I like bickering about useless nonsense with people who most definitely will not be changing their minds. Yes, I know it's a waste of time. No, I don't plan on stopping.

  • Twitter is also a huge bot farm so I think it’s safe to say that at least half of those likes aren’t real.

  • What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?

  • Ah I see. Sorry, I really can’t be certain of anything here haha.

  • I honestly can’t tell what this is implying. Are you construing my thoughts/background? If so it’s very presumptuous.

  • Go be the one to start it then. You’re not exactly among the most proactive people on Lemmy.

  • Abolish the police Rewrite western society. Because that’s really what it comes down to if we’re gonna go that route. It’s like an endgame Jenga tower that no one wants to make the next move on and yet everyone wants to complain about how it ended up.

  • No CDs big enough, sure. Most modern consoles (like PlayStation and Xbox) use Blu-ray as their disc type for physical copies of games. Those can hold up to 100 GB for PlayStation 5 in particular.

Regardless, even if the disc isn’t able to store enough data to hold any one game, it isn’t immediately a problem. For example, the physical copy for the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 came with two discs to hold all of the data. There are ways around any data capacity limitations more often than not for physical media.

  • The History channel? As in the channel that hosts and broadcasts “Ancient Aliens”? You’re not exactly helping your case here.

Additionally, you’re incorrect in your citing of the notion that all property in a communist state is communally owned. All private property is communally owned, but that only goes for anything falling into the category of productive assets used to generate profit and subsume labour. You’re by all means still entitled in such states to owning any personal property, i.e. various forms of entertainment, food, toiletries, housing, etc. The whole basis of your distinction pretty much falls apart through that correction alone.

For the sake of providing an external source, you can read further on socialist/communist ideas through this website, particularly the first two paragraphs which once again thoroughly deconstructs your false distinction of the aforementioned ideologies.

  • Where did you get this definition of socialism from? There’s no such thing as as socialism that allows for capitalist ownership of the means of production; if a socialist says it’s fine, they’re not a socialist.

As per Einstein himself (in his article entitled “Why Socialism?”):

In [a socialist economy], the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilised in a planned fashion. A planned economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the community, would distribute the work to be done among all those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to every man, woman, and child.

As you can see, as the means of production are owned and maintained by society itself in a socialist economy, there would be no possibility for any aspiring capitalist to accrue those means for themselves, and thereby maximize their own profit. In theory they would just be another worker without any special economical advantage over anyone else.

  • Incredible parenting strategy to post your grievances toward her online at her expense instead of communicating openly with her about it.

  • It doesn’t seem like it was their intention to reprimand you, it’s an open discussion after all.

  • No, the art of game-making is making a fun game. The story a game may or may not have is purely supplemental for the sake of that goal.

  • It’s as the case is with everything for these parasites: if it loses them too much money or makes them too little, they avoid it like the plague. It’s cheaper upfront to just run it through an open system.

  • I doubt most console gamers have enough of the know-how nor the desire to figure out how to emulate.

And before you say it’s easy: yes, for many that is often the case. But for an even greater amount of people all they want to do is install the game on their platform of choice and play. Too many hoops to jump through and the casual/technologically unmotivated audience loses motivation. And the minimum amount of hoops before that ends up being the case is smaller than you and I would probably hope for.

  • Could you provide a source for these claims? I live in Canada so admittedly there’s likely a discrepancy in environment, though what I found is this CBC article on cop death statistics. While the top cause is definitely traffic accidents, it’s hardly overwhelming since it’s fairly closely followed by shootings.

Additionally (and this is more a matter of interpretation than anything as of yet) I don’t quite believe that the majority of traffic accidents which involve the death of cops are self-imposed unless there’s something concrete to suggest otherwise which I’m not aware of. By its very nature there’s like a million different factors at play in an accident—like any other only with cop-involved ones there would be a higher risk of mortality or injury—so again I’d have to see some data on that being the case. Otherwise that claim seems a bit disingenuous.

  • Fair, though they definitely wouldn’t have the excuse of “killed in the line of duty” in the case described. Though I suppose it depends on who you ask.

  • These aren’t cops. They’re members of the “Patriot Front”, a white nationalist group. You’d probably be lauded in prison for doing as the main comment of this thread described provided you steer clear of the skinhead gangs.

  • And she has every right to be! Not even a million of these homunculi could equate to her in societal value.

  • The Nuremberg trials were infamously ineffectual (even arguably more performative than anything) and led to many high-level Nazi officials being given extremely lax sentences or even being acquitted. I hope this is more of a basic analogy than an actual example they would wish to follow.
