can't say for sure but I know mine are doneskies ✂️🍆
I also think the point here is considerably more nuanced than non-passing=bad.
I read it as a critique of how trans people are stereotyped as non-passing. The fact of the matter is, a lot of us do pass and go about our daily lives, and the average cis person doesn't even realize. We assimilate more often than most would admit.
So while I don't think there should be moral value to passing per se, I also think it's pretty fucked up the way we're all sort of stereotyped as being the most visible until proven otherwise...
Yeah… you people are nice. Thank you all fr it’s so refreshing and rare to meet nice people on the internet these days
I think Canada, Mexico, & EU should coordinate so that a tariff on any of us is a tariff on all of us. Hit back dollar for dollar on any tariff affecting any of our economies.
Nice to see the EU joining in
This is so encouraging imo thank you
Yes this was basically exactly what I was thinking! It's very reassuring to hear that could be possible in the real world and not just in my head :D
Okay that's rad. I'd been privately thinking of something similar to that myself but I'm new to the fediverse and didn't know whether it was possible. If it's like what I'm thinking you're suggesting that would solve a HUGE issue in our community for balancing visibility (to help others and give information) with privacy (to support each other and avoid bigots). Centralized social media/messaging platforms have never prioritized this need in their design so we are always switching between apps to fulfill either function.
Thanks! She’s submitted an application to join blahaj and I’ve also pointed her to this post

Yeah I agree. It’s progress and personally I’m very impressed by lemmy. It feels good to get connected with people who are charting paths forward in this environment.
It sucks but historically trans people have always been a bit underground by necessity and needing to find solutions outside the mainstream (in the case of the fediverse maybe one day it will be mainstream). And a lot of us do work in tech, can help those who aren’t as savvy out. We were always active on irc and Usenet back in the day
I think at the end of the day it’s good we’re working on this now because if things go downhill fast we can minimize our losses
That's an awesome response tbh and clears up some of my questions I didn't even know I had too
idk why I can't view it :( maybe caught in a spam filter on Reddit's side
Mod of r/Transgender_Surgeries has posted an edit to their post addressing Lemmy with questions and things to consider
Cross posting this here for visibility as it's easy to not see the edit. They are adding thoughts and resources to the post as they evolve so maybe keep an eye out for future edits.
I think the questions they have are very reasonable & they have welcomed cis people to discuss on the post (but not elsewhere on the subreddit)
I'm new to Lemmy and doing what I can. Long time member of the subreddit. Maybe some of you all are better than me at discussing these topics with them?
Thank you all for your help so far 🫶
Big changes! HRT and surgeries are often inflection points for breakups. Sounds like you’re on the right track. Breakups are hard during any time let alone during second puberty. Good luck 🫶
I remember that feeling so clearly. Mood boost is one of the earliest benefits of HRT, or at least it was for me. Congrats!
Also for what it's worth, I could never really date all that much before hormones. A month into HRT I had a cute little fling and later that year I met my boyfriend. 5 years and going strong.
Sure I am not knocking the attempt as a matter of principle.
However, you are plainly wrong about the Canadian constitution if you think it’s safer. Look into the notwithstanding clause.
All a politician needs to do in order to genocide us with explicitly transphobic legislation is invoke the notwithstanding clause.
And Pierre Poilievre has said he will do so in order to add new criminal offences to the law that violate human rights. His party’s platform is also looking like it will win a majority and the platform includes banning trans women from female spaces at the federal level (something that can only be done via the criminal code thanks to separation of powers in our constitution).
They explicitly don’t even need a state of emergency or any reason at all to do so. They just need to do it & it overrides all of section 15 charter rights which means all of our rights to be free from discrimination on the basis of trans status.
Totally legal in Canadas constitution and would likely be upheld by the Supreme Court. It’s a massive hole in our country’s legal system.
Not trying to be discouraging here. Just FYI I live in Canada and am beginning to assess my own options for leaving if needed. India and Thailand are looking pretty good. EU, NZ, and AUS maybe.
This is unfortunately not at all how the laws work in Canada. We tried this so many times but we have a safe 3rd country agreement with the US so it just gets shot down.
Also people in Canada aren’t all that much more friendly to us.
