This community was made because I didn’t see an Amiga community on #Lemmy, so I thought, “Hey, why not make one?”
But I chose to make it on #Piefed instead because Piefed seems to have better moderation options than other federated Reddit-like software.
I’m looking forward to this!
One of my favourite puzzle games ever.
I should also mention that this game is available on GOG for the same price:
A survival horror that's controlled entirely by typing on a keyboard. Online co-op is available. No reviews yet but I like the premise. Might be playable on a Steam Deck if you connect it to a keyboard. Demo is available for you to try before you buy. Also, the dev is broadcasting his playthrough right now.
NEW RELEASE - Blood Typers
TYPE TO KILL in this survival horror adventure. Alone or with friends, explore a sprawling cursed film studio as its horror movies bleed into reality. Choose from a roster of characters then plan your escape from this bloody homage to old school horror. But remember... death is just a typo away.

This is a remake of Doors of Insanity, released in 2021 -- but has since been de-listed. Yes, it's a card battler. However, it's one you can play on your Steam Deck or with a gamepad. No reviews yet, but this is published by Neon Doctrine, who also brought us Count Lucanor and Devilated.
NEW RELEASE - Doors of Insanity: ReOpened
Gear up, sling cards, roll dice and power through the endless doors of a deeply unhinged Purgatory in Doors of Insanity: ReOpened!

Basically, this is a 2D vampire-themed narrative RPG with a fun art style, great voice acting, and strong lesbian subtext. The soundtrack sounds amazing, and you can buy it as DLC. This game supports both Xbox and DualShock gamepads. So far, both critics and gamers love this game. A demo is also available, so it's worth trying before buying.
It's also important to acknowledge the dev is a woman.
NEW RELEASE - Cabernet
Cabernet is a 2D narrative RPG set in a 19th century Eastern European inspired world, with a modern twist. Guide Liza, a young vampire in her new unlife among the unsuspecting townsfolk. Will you retain your humanity or descend further into the horror you have become?

Okay, but do so-called "gamers" actually care about video games? Because most of the time, I don't see them talking about actual video games that they enjoy.
I'm on the fence with this one because the early access reviews are mixed. However, it's a metroidvania with a fun art style and music is enjoyable. It's also nice you can play this with a gamepad. It also looks like this is the dev's first game.
NEW RELEASE - Cosmic: A Journey Among Shadows
Embark on a journey through a land of darkness to save your lost shadow. With the help of a mysterious beast’s shadow, master new abilities, outsmart enemies, and uncover hidden truths in your quest to reclaim what’s been taken.

I play my Steam Deck more than my living room tower, which has a 3090. When it's time to upgrade again, I think I'll just get a Steam Deck 2 and dock it to my TV.
Microsoft also has the benefit of owning Windows.
Personally, I just just hook up my PC to my TV, run Steam in Big Picture mode, and it gives me a console experience. Not a perfect console experience, mind you, but good enough for me.
I remember gaming in the 80s and 90s, and four-year-old games were regarded as ancient. Times have really changed.
Gaming is quite critical for any tech company because it validates technology. If not for gaming, AI wouldn't even have hype.
I enjoy the Like a Dragon series quite a lot, and this iteration seems like the whackiest one of the bunch. The graphics are really colourful here. This is Steam Deck verified, and playable with both Xbox and DualShock gamepads. Lots of DLC available, but they're mostly just outfits and ship customizations. You can get an extra karaoke and CD pack for C$5.99. So far, this has been reviewed quite well. The system requirements imply that you need a new-ish PC to play this, but I regard that with a heaping tablespoon of salt since, again, this works on a Steam Deck.
NEW RELEASE - Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain & his crew. Engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and treasure.

Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain & his crew. Engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and treasure.
According to the Steam page, DualShock only works via USB.
This one I'm really excited about because it's re-make of the classic Amiga game X-Out, made by the legendary Rainbow Arts. This release preserves the art style of the original while delivering several enhancements, such as lighting effects. And it still has a soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck. You can play this with a gamepad, and there's local co-op.
NEW RELEASE - X-Out: Resurfaced
Build your fleet and face the alien terror from the deep! Now it’s up to you alone to stop an alien invasion from the depths of the ocean in this legendary, home computer era shoot ‘em up dredged up and faithfully rebuilt for modern platforms – X-Out: Resurfaced!

I don't know. Spending hundreds of millions of dollars, then discontinuing the game after eight days -- I've never seen that before.
Fun premise, good reviews, and attractive visuals for what they are. Both online and local PvP, and the multiplayer is cross-platform too. It's also nice that both Xbox and Dualshock gamepads are supported. Low spec requirements -- you should be able to play this on a potato.
NEW RELEASE: Cascadia
Compete to create the most perfect ecosystem in the award-winning board game journey!

Fun story, cute bunnies, and this has good reviews. Local co-op is available, and you can play this with a gamepad.
NEW RELEASE: Cinnabunny
Cinnabunny is a cozy life simulator game where you play as a bunny who runs a bakery. Unlock new recipes, go birdwatching, collect mushrooms, and charm your community. Save up enough carrots to help your family move.

This one has a cool premise, and it has good reviews too. It's also silly and doesn't take itself seriously. Inexpensive too.
NEW RELEASE: Fight School Simulator
Are you ready to become a legendary martial arts master? Build your own school, train your students, and battle rival schools to become the strongest. Join tournaments, raise your grasshoppers, and most importantly, collect tuition from your students!

NEW RELEASE: The Madness of Billiards
Pocket balls while facing monsters on the table. With more worlds than you can imagine, the heart of it all is Halloween, where ghosts, goblins, witches, and more lurk in every level. Protect your heart and conquer the madness in this ultimate pool adventure!

Steam's best rated games of 2024 aren't what you'd expect
So I looked at the top 100 best rated games released on Steam during 2024, and I saw some interesting trends.
First, only two games were AAA titles. They were Black Myth: Wukong and SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS. And even then, I'm being a little bit charitable by calling the latter title an AAA game.
As for everything else? Budget title indies. Most titles were priced under $30. And 22 of them were free -- not "free with in-app purchases", but simply free.
The other trend is that few of these games got press attention even though, in a lot of cases, they had a large playerbase.
Case in point: the highest rated game on Steam is MiSide which has a 97% positive rating based on 87,019 reviews. I checked news archives and MiSide hardly got any mentions from the gaming press. No mentions on GameSpot, IGN, or PC Gamer. How did gaming journalists miss out on the highest rated game of 2024?
But the most surprising trend is that the bulk of the 100 highest rated games on Steam are PC exclusives. As much as people say we are living in a post-platform world this is simply not the case. For instance, only 2 of the top 10 Steam games of 2024 got a multi-platform release -- Balatro and Black Myth: Wukong.
You would think a beloved game like Satisfactory would already arrive on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, but after six years of development, it is still PC-only. Now to be fair, Satisfactory is supposed to arrive on consoles. But that game has been on Early Access for PC since 2019 -- and there's no firm release date for console versions.
There are three takeaways here: price does not indicate quality, don't believe the hype, and exclusives still matter.
