as far as kate goes.. i am making the conscious effort to use it over npp. i've been using linux since debian was in diapers, but my main 'work' pc has always been windows (that fact will be changing soon as i can decide on a desktop and what spin of what will deliver it) and npp has been on it since its inception. so what npp 'has' over kate, for me, is 22 years of history together.
firefox did that bit right. the burger menu might be the default--but that menu bar is right there waiting to be called to action or given center stage.

it's near perfect for them. fewer options, less things to mess up, and the big fat buttons for the few things they might want to run (and everything else tucked out of the way).
in their search for the 'perfect' desktop, i think the gnome design team went just a weeeee bit too far in dumbing-down the interface and elimination of 'clutter', and so many 'gnome' applications and utilities have like zero options and no menus, and literally no personality. they're basically unusable on anything that's supposed to be more than just a browser-launching chromebook replacement.
notepad++ is one of my 'must haves' on any pc. even with how shitty it looks on linux, it still does everything i expect it to. irfanview is another, there simply isn't anything native to linux that has its feature set and ease-of-use. i gave up my paint.net and paintshop pro for linux, but i need the other two to work.
pretty much every 'blue' or 'potentially-blue' state has been dragged to court because they didn't 'comply' with the unconstitutional (because states run elections, not the feds) data grab
it took over an hour and three tries to download updates to firefox and thunderbird on a system configured to use mozilla's ppa (thunderbird is not included in mozilla's new deb and rpm repos)

perhaps the many, many people who are trying to update and secure their existing systems or install new software or packages on them? the many others wanting to upgrade or install a new ubuntu? perhaps anyone who maintains or uses a ppa archive or other launchpad resource? there are millions of people outside of your sphere that are affected by this ongoing incident.
as long as you're still a mac user the icloud space and sub isn't really going to waste. can you do what you want to do on your android phone by just using a browser? i know you can't do 'everything' that way, but basic file and email access should be accessible from pretty much any device's browser.
we were looking awhile back for one, but none of the tplink models at walmart (the only retailer with routers within 50 miles) supported flashing with a third-party firmware and i didn't want to shop online for one.
we sorta lucked-out, though.. ended up just using the one from our old provider since they never asked for it back or charged us for it. it's dual band, has wpa3, guest ssid and vlan. enough for us for now. all we had to do is flip a setting from dsl uplink to wan uplink.
wake me when they fix the ~ 16 year old bug about missing thumbnails for images with 'incorrect' extensions (such as webp named as jpg or png). using the same image thumbnailers as gwenview would do it.
it's a part of macrium reflect version 8. it's what mounts backup images within windows to browse and recover files from. you should still be able to boot off a reflect rescue usb to do those tasks.
macrium doesn't do perpetual licenses anymore, and they EOL'd all reflect versions sold that way. it's all subscriptions now (according to a neighbor that uses it.. he was strong-armed into upgrading to a sub from his version 8.x)--even for that previous version which they still sell (relabeled 'ltsc') as a subscription.
