  • A lot of people use uBlock Origin. Does any of you use uMatrix?

  • i see that it does, now, but the ui to do so is basically unusable. ten minutes and a flurry of clicks upon clicks to do what the umatrix ui can do in less than five seconds while displaying everything in one view.

  • i don't see a lot of swap use on my systems, but i do have zswap backed by a swap partition on a couple of them; otherwise i generally i just use a basic swap partition on most everything.

    basic systems (browser, email, light docs/media use) i set up for others that are using ext4 might use a swapfile instead if it was the default for whatever distribution i used for it.

  • if she won't use or learn a password manager, then get her an address book to write them down in. it's got tabs for organizing sites alphabetically and plenty of room for each entry to have the site, username, password and a date (it was added to the book or updated). there are 'password books', but an address book works just as well. the labels on the blanks don't need to match with what you're actually using it for.

    i make my own for people that need one, using a page layout i made, printed and 3-hole punched, then put into either a folder with clips to hold the paper or a small 3-ring binder.

  • i wish raymond would revive its development. i prefer it over noscript because it saves settings per site. just because i allow some third-party scripts on one site doesn't mean i want them running everywhere.

  • a password, and the concept, are also easier to comprehend. passkeys for most is just fairy dust and magic.

    another consideration is something you have or something you are are different from something you know. phishing and hackers or scammers are not the only dangers to protect yourself from.

  • this is just reclassifying 'digital' software as taxable. the same as software on physical media already is in california. some states have a similar tax status for these products.

    many states already did the same with digital video and streaming.

    i don't really see a problem with it.
