  • The ballkini

  • What?

  • Yeah the discussion has to be clear. I'm not in love with splicing genes very unrelated to the destination organism and not seeing what the long-term effects are. Also splicing genes specifically to make crops more resistant to Roundup so we can kill everything but the crop even harder and be unconcerned of the wider environmental impact the pesticide has.

  • Particularly the worms, that's the best part.

  • Idk man, them food scientists been up to some strange shit out at the farm and at the food processing plant for like a century now and things have gotten out of hand a little.

  • Yeah but it's not like that tension came from nowhere whatsoever. There was already some tension there even without any media. Now it becoming a national or global conversation for years upon years is very arguably overblown as compared to home much natural tension was there and how important the issue actually is in the scheme of things.

  • That's a fair take on the situation. I'm also seeing a chicken and the egg situation here. Like are ftm easier to make passable or are they more passable because people aren't paying as much attention to the differences. Seems to be a bit of both. I'm very queer and trans friendly. A lot of people move to this area because the government helps pay for hormones and transition. Also the city is just very queer friendly.

I wouldn't say I'm part of the community but definitely have friends in almost every aspect of it from hardcore leather men to my introverted artsy ftm friend. I will say I have far more mtf and gay male or even lesbian acquaintances. Honestly now that I'm thinking about it we really don't talk about it or the community much. Usually when I hang out with people we're just being goofy artsy stoners and I just see them the same way I see everyone, just as people, if that makes sense. Also there's a bit of psychedelic hijinks, and when people trip sexuality or even the body or human things can kinda take a backseat, just an amorphous soul floating through some mental states.

  • Simp is someone caring about someone or something without that care being reciprocated.

Normie is someone not well versed in something, particularly memes or a particular online community or culture.

Basic removed is almost the same thing as a normie, more so that they trend towards or prefer what is common and popular. They can often treat what is very common as something niche which is usually seen as cringe.

  • I wouldn't say that, usually they start organically from what I've seen. It's more so that they are blown up into much bigger issues than they actually are by those seeking power whether that be to attack a group or to galvanize their base. Starting a culture war out of thin air is nearly impossible. Like imagine getting people to fight over which end to crack an egg.

  • I mean I guess at some time in the past. I watched a pretty in depth video on Norway's sovereign wealth fund last year I kinda remember. Generally the concept of a government and taxes isn't too complex and is taught in school.

  • Never said anything about anything being bad. No matter how the pay comes I still like a government agency setting a maximum on the cost of treatments and medical items. Even in a no insurance pure open market or in a completely socialized medicine state there's no need for a hospital to have profits greater than a grocery store aka above 1% to 3%. Although profits in a socialized medicine state aren't quite the same since the buyer and seller are the same entity, but doesn't stop products or services being purchased at X and sold at Y on the books.

  • I would have to check out the API for Lemmy to see how easy it would be to make a minimal terminal CLI would be to make. I hate making stuff publicly because I usually only want what I need to work, but I could make a repo and see if anyone else is interested in expanding on it.

  • Not all unions are good but not having a union is typically far worse.

  • Government collects taxes, government pays for socialized medicine with taxes along with other things. Maybe government sets up a sovereign wealth fund with taxes and that fund does well which also helps pay for social care programs.

  • Also somehow less visible? Probably connected to being more acceptable.

  • So just indirect payment via taxes then. So the bill still comes due.

  • Any governing body of any form needs attention, particularly ones that have the power to tax.

  • Unfortunately in a lot of places anti-lgbtq isn't necessarily a class war, that is it's more of a culture war.

  • So hand over an extremely lucrative market to a competitor who's willing to obey a sovereign nations laws?
