  • John Steinbeck, BTW. Fabulous author. Very much the inverse of Ayn Rand.

  • the issue was that he had all the right policies. That's what stings. As I said, most of us were willing to look the other way for a few transgressions so long as he asserted that he was a different person than he was before. This accusation was just a different beast entirely and couldn't be downplayed or ignored. Also it really was the last straw.

  • I do feel you but there's fighting dirty like them and then there is abandoning our standards. If we abandon our principles than we are no better than they are.

  • we were willing to believe the narrative that such people could be redeemed. He seemed genuinely to find distaste in his past actions and was openly repentant. That's what makes this mildly infuriating because this is the bridge too far. He's spot on on the issues, seemed humble and well spoken. To put a pin in the r4pe allegations for a second, the larger issue is that he CAN get blackout drunk and then do things he can't even remember. Drunk posting on reddit before the modpocalypse is one thing, but if those things include SA? Yeah, we have to make the hard pass now. There's a line, man.

  • Unfortunately this seems 100% credible. Her therapist and another ex boyfriend are both corroborating the allegations. The woman even said she shares his politics. I'm not mad at her bravely coming out with this but the timing is rather suspicious. She should have spoken up a year ago, or at the very least ahead of the primary. There's a guy we can slide over to, he's known and vetted in the state (Troy Jackson, who's a logger by trade), but he has about as much charisma as a grilled cheese sandwich. Also he's almost retirement age.

  • Right, and we'll never walk on the moon, either. Got it.

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

As a mainer, and a progressive, this is like the ending to "Ol' Yeller."

  • "infrasound" complainers

  • if it's a structural engineering problem then it's probably solvable. perhaps they can be added like fins on the blade which would disrupt turbulence, reduce drag and sound, much like how an owl has ragged feathers to allow them to have silent flight.

  • I was taking to the europeans.

  • solar cells are basically a membrane. it's usually the mounting frame that adds the weight.

  • if you can get a solar cell in a 6 oz calculator, I doubt highly that incorporating it into the design of the blade is going to add much more weight than the expanded aluminum and fibreglass that's already there.

  • oh, i know, just you don't immediately go to that option, so KUDOS for bring it up. See we can fight the man AND get a history lesson as well! It's educational!

  • (meanwhile, in North America, Post world cup) How do you like 51C ?

  • 🫡 Damn straight

  • have your tried loving yourself? Next you'll be telling us that you only drink decaf. "black coffee" Psh, honestly...

  • Ya'know, I wasn't going there, but I like your imaginative solution to the problem.

  • I've thought for YEARS that we should to the same thing with the Hoover Dam. Should also mount wind turbines on the face of it to catch the updrafts out of the canyon. You all acting like green energy has to be mutually exclusive to one another. Wind turbine blades have a lot of surface area that could be covered in solar panels, which solves the issue of solar panels energy output decreasing with heat because then they'd always have built in cooling. No wind? There's still light and some wattage is better than no wattage. Put the turbine blade head on a giant hinge and they can catch rising air from the grounds' radiant heat at night. Free energy is everywhere if you just know where to look and how to take advantage of it.

  • You misspelled "Alt+F4" How that occurs? ehh...who can say?

Saying Primates have "human like qualities" is precisely the inverse of what's going on. Human's do "primate things" not the other way around.

We should Describe Authoritarian policies as "INGSOC-ian" not "Orwellian." George Orwell was just the Messenger [literature]
