  • Did you follow the news on the total energies settlement?

  • In that particular case no.

My setup is searchable ZIM files on a pen drive. I open the file with a viewer on any PC or f-droid capable android. No servers involved, no handoff of data involved. More like a book as last resort.

Maps are openstreet maps downloads in osmand.

From my perspective there is no need to over engineer a basic tool.

For example, take a look at those TEOTWAWKI preppers. They’re hoarding books, ebooks, literature and knowledge in the most robust and reliable way. No need to add a tech stack that might or might not yield the proper answer and might or might not hide important facts in the summary.

Edit: https://feddit.org/comment/12160220 this fella has some great additions, too. E.g. Unnecessary resource hunger.

  • People putting me in drawers is also getting tiresome.

I’m using coding agents as a tool for software development and like to summarize complex matters. That doesn’t mean, that I like having AI “features” cramped into everything.

And also there are the valid ethical questions AI-apologists and enthusiasts tend to dream away.

Edit: especially if the stack is advertised for survival, mind this. The more moving parts, the higher the chances for a critical failure.

  • They lost me at AI...

But yea, having the Wikipedia and offline maps stored away (e.g. for offline use on an android phone) is a great thing. I use a thumb drive instead of a interconnected thingy with "command centre". Feeling old now.

  • For gaming, it is said to be slower in comparison to ext4. I'm personally not chasing FPS, but I know a lot of people doing so.

My gut feeling tells me, that all the data integrity checks are better used for real important data, and not for some media streaming (I'm using ZFS in corporate context).

  • Maybe, except for your gaming partition (ext4).

  • It is illegal but common practice.

  • Depends on the business. We’ve got a ridiculous minimum wage of 13,90€ . Most honest restaurant collect the tips and split them, so even the cooking staff receives something.

For employees the tip is tax free. Businesses owner have to pay taxes.

With the most tips being payed via card (10-25% preselectable), I doubt that the staff sees any of it.

  • Every European country has its own valid culture of tipping. Some consider tipping unfriendly or even hostile.

In Germany you used to gratify a special service or outstanding servers.

    Sadly this gets americanized already.

  • Perfect.

  • Puh. I'm really glad, I met you. How would I otherwise know about stuff like being uninformed and what learning is. I guess, you must be a charm to work with.

Being a long time dev and having myself a reluctant look at AI featured coding I got an understanding of where you're coming from. Still it is just a tool and the quality of the contribution is determined by the developer as gatekeeper. If you are concerned about the quality, raise your question ones. If the other side has a different opinion, stop working him and especially: try not to rally people into supporting you or offload the discussion into a different platform to gather the mob. Do something productive, got to the forest, scream at trees, or whatnot.

On the other hand, if the project is dear to your heart, ask from which commit you can start a fork, without risking aforementioned licensing problems: and then get going.

Working a dev that pulled of a free to use and open source application while according to him curing a depression, is just not it. You are not entitled to anything, and he is not obliged. Instead of working on the software he's now confronted with a shitload of aggressive comments about how he is working on the software.

Finally he has chosen a tool and a procedure for his pet project and that is absolute within the bounds of his expertise. He's developing the software since 2017 and knows his source and architecture best.

  • Come on.. how condescending are you? He is a well established developer. He is not uninformed.

He just made a decision that you don't share. But the good part is: you don't have to.

  • I know that you are involved.

You ain’t a dev or a maintainer oof the project, so keep the discussion civil. Also stop trying to rally people for your “cause”. At this point, you are just bluntly trying to make someone miserable.

There is nothing to gain for you.

  • Considering how often and how heated the topic comes up in lemmy (even though the actual discussion takes place at GitHub) this is some sort of bullying.

Instead of simply parting ways some are harassing the developers of a free software in order to gain exactly nothing.

  • Vibe works great.

I use the remote devstral in XCode and in Vibe cli. All my latest commits are vibe commits (vommits) now.

Need to wait for new hardware but feature-wise running the local model is supported.

  • They are commonly used in many parts of Europe.

If you drop some Tariff percentages, we might be willing to advise.

  • That’s why we cannot have nice things.

People on the internet going nuclear about how a dev (who dedicates his spare time to create a free, non-profit piece of software) works.

Also they’re not contributing or providing solutions, but feel entitled to demand and criticize. Loving all about it.
