Take a look at the comparison and judge for yourself.
If the USA ever get‘s a democratic Government again, there is so much to rewind.
Luckily, in vast parts they could just follow the https://www.project2025.observer/de in reverse.
Doesn't mean, a whole dysfunctional government goes along with such a deep cut in their own flesh.
Your point being?
Asked the same question regarding overeara at https://feddit.org/post/22713560.
A mate had experience with the predecessor model.
Yea.. as if they don’t enjoy their strategic advantage to have bases and drone relays in all their “befriended” countries. Their global power relies in the ability to project military power in a fast manner.
Good luck doing that without strategic bases and pre distributed resources and local enablers.
No, actually I didn't knew about them.
Also I don't know if they really fit in my eco, green, recycling thought process so I just ordered the repeat.audio to give them a try.
I'm willing to share my impression as soon as possible and maybe we should make a list of Europan manufacturers of good over ear headphones.
Yea, the fitting is really an issue. I have sort of an alien head 👽😐
I feel that the 400€ for the earbuds are hefty, even for a green product. I tend to try the repeat.audio (try as in test if they match my head shape), and maybe go with the lifetime repair offer, well knowing that lifetime is only as long as the company exists.
My motivation is to support a company that made a lot of right decisions, e.g. in terms of right to repair/repairability and avoiding waste, e.g. by recycling. I cannot say that these reflect my values and given the opportunity buy something else 😅
Over Ear Headphones
I'm remotely thinking about getting new Over Ear Headphones. Does anyone have particular first hand experience with repeat.audio or with the fairphone earbuds xl?
repeat.audio offers a "comparison" at this page.
(Yes, I know brands like Teufel and their lovely Real Blue NC.... I also liked them very much, until the frame broke. Hence the two repairable products).
Not knowing much about the airframes, there must be a reason SAAB and Bombardier work in corporation. The new sensors seems to be much smaller then before.
As you said, the level of activism is a personal choice.
I tend to stick to my direct environment: make better buying/product decisions and softly talk to friends and family. I welcomed the fediverse early on and nag my representatives about adopting it, too.
As with political movements: there needs to be more to a party than European-centered-thinking. Have a look at the programs and decide for yourself if you agree with the majority of points in the most important aspects.
It is rather unclear.
The mentioned maintenance and hardware is one aspect. Another one the software suite. Buyers like Germany and UK claim that sensor fusioning is processed in national clouds, but e.g. Bundeswehr heavily relies on American infrastructure.
So I guess in the end there doesn’t have to be explicit kill switch if you can starve out the maintenance or software support (e.g. updates or processing)

Mmm.. I added several IT news, and regular news sites. National and international.
Sometimes feed offenders like reuters don’t work (without workarounds) but the majority offers their all or topic centric feeds just like that.

We're excited to announce our partnership with NorNor / Heim to enhance European Sovereignty in autonomous cloud infrastructure.

Just add sites (by top level domain) that you use to read. You would be surprised how many provide feeds and even more surprised how fast your feed reader gets overwhelmingly filled 😅
The project looks nice and RSS Aggregators are the way to go.
I switched to a file based (cloud storage) syncing app like News Explorer a while ago. Sometimes less infrastructure involved is a blessing.

Nicolas Guillou has been sanctioned by the USA as a judge of the International Criminal Court. He notices the effects primarily in the digital realm.

Just another hint, why EU needs to become more sovereign and independent.
In my experience, there are no silly reasons. Most people tend to stick to what they’re familiar with and not to experiment. And that is just fine.
On the other hand there are also other people eager to learn something new. Take your time and invest your energy in them. Show them around. It is a win:win.

Lidl parent company Schwarz Group builds AI data centre for €11 billion
Die Schwarz-Gruppe (Lidl, Kaufland) investiert elf Milliarden Euro in ein neues Rechenzentrum in Lübbenau. Es ist die größte Einzelinvestition des Unternehmens.

The Schwarz Group, parent company of Lidl and Kaufland, is investing €11 billion in Germany to build a large AI-focused data center. The project, managed by its IT subsidiary Schwarz Digits, aims to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty and reduce reliance on U.S. and Chinese cloud providers. Politicians welcome the move as a major boost for Europe’s competitiveness in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.
The Schwarz Group (Lidl, Kaufland) is investing eleven billion euros in a new data centre in Lübbenau. It is the company's largest single investment.

(DE) International Criminal Court could replace Microsoft with German software

Surprising plans in The Hague International Criminal Court could replace Microsoft with German software
Germany is not exactly known as the home of major software developments. Now it is said that the International Criminal Court wants to replace applications of the tech giant Microsoft with software from Germany. However, there is a reason behind this other than technical superiority.
According to a media report, the International Criminal Court (ICC) is putting its Microsoft office software to the test and wants to replace it with the German program package OpenDesk. The background is the concern about possible sanctions by the US government under President Donald Trump, reported the "Handelsblatt".
According to this, the Court is about to sign a contract with the State Centre for Digital Sovereignty (Zendis), which coordinates the development of OpenDesk. "Given the circumstances, we must reduce dependencies and strengthen the technological autonomy of the Court of Justic

One topic dominated the recent 2025 OpenInfra Summit Europe, and it wasn't AI.

Europe is moving decisively away from U.S. tech giants toward open-source alternatives, driven by concerns over digital sovereignty and reliability of American companies[^1]. At the 2025 OpenInfra Summit Europe, industry leaders emphasized that this shift isn't about isolation but resilience.
"What we're really looking for is resilience. What we want for our countries, for our companies, for ourselves, is resilience in the face of unforeseen events in a fast-changing world. Open source allows us to be sovereign without being isolated," said OpenInfra Foundation general manager Thierry Carrez[^1].
This transition is already happening. The German state Schleswig-Holstein has replaced Microsoft Exchange and Outlook with open-source email solutions. Similar moves have been made by the Austrian military, Danish government organizations, and the French city of Lyon[^1].

datadog telemetry
Hey fellas,
what do you think about this conversation/issue https://mastodon.radio/@OH3CUF/115326190113198755
It was shortly discussed by the dev, before the ticket was deleted.
Both Apps by default use datadog for telemetry, with enough info to fingerprint a device. You can disable it in the settings, but in my opinion a dialog like “Help the App get better by sharing xyz” would sit better with a privacy focused App.
For me the discourse and how things were handled are a deal breaker.
