  • I agree that people that dismiss current AI models as hype and slop have not used them to any extent. I am constantly astounded by their abilities. The problem with dismissing them as a grift is that it is a distraction from how we should be thinking clearly about how to confine them in the event that they are not a grift.

  • It depends what the game is, and I don't think the people that think they know what the game is know what the game is. They believe they are ushering in something that will set them apart from the general population but which in fact will probably not view them as anything of more value than the rest of us.

  • It is not smart to have an animal as large as that in an atypical and confined environment in such proximity to a large excited crowd.

  • My point is that if you do accept that human consciousness is a special case then you would still need a word for that level of sentience, and why not keep consciousness as that word and find another for the more general appreciation of environment that non-human terrestrial organisms possess. In truth I think there is already a word for that general condition and the word is life, I think an awareness of your place and a feeling for its beauty is a defining characteristic of all life.

  • I think Sellers said that Chauncey Gardiner was the closest he ever came to being himself.

  • As a sidenote search bad taxidermy.

  • The myth that women enjoy sex less than men although not always borne out by experience has become fixed as an expected societal norm. Conversely a woman that does enjoy sex and is not merely enduring it for the good of her relationship is therefore thought unusual and very alluring. The surest example of this is a lesbian encounter as there could be no reason for it other than at least one of the women desires it. Ironically therefore one of the sexual acts that a man finds most exciting is the one he is precluded from by definition. It represents against type evidence of definite sexual desire in a woman which although simplistic and unreal is nevertheless a deep seated view.

  • Also Herod's first wife was called Doris, maybe work that in too if you can.

  • Dont stop there.

  • What about actors who can't play themselves like Peter Sellers.

  • Lionel.

  • You know tectonic refers to massive, dense slabs of heavy rock moving incredibly slowly.

  • The hidden door to retraining as a plumber.

  • Your first line is science is a means to find truth, your second line is I have no proof I just feel it.

Edit. I did not mean for that to sound so aggressive, I disagree with some of what you said but you are genuine.

  • The forced degradation of words is unhelpful, a word will still be needed to differentiate the unparalleled state of mind from the emerging properties of complex systems. Concepts like consciousness and God are often commandeered to peddle tenuous ideas to the great unwashed and it is ultimately unsustainable. And while we are about it computational modelling is a license to find what you want to find.

  • Sounds a little hippy to me but 'there are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy' so if it is the case we will still need a word for what consciousness did mean. Why not leave consciousness alone and find a new word to mean the interconnectedness of grifting ideas to make a living.

  • Is this update planned to extend all the way up the food chain to executive offices, rhetorical question of course. We all know the answer.

  • Instability is probably the aim, stability allows people the time to wonder about improving the domestic state of affairs.

  • Is this the game where we stretch the meaning of words beyond usefulness to force an exciting story. Consciousness is a peculiar state, if everything is then nothing is, is that the point of the exercise.
