Am I wrong for feeling cringe and ickiness when looking at my country flag?
  • Another valid reason to fly one is self defense. If you are bold enough to exist on rural american roads while riding a bicycle, having an american flag visibly attached to your bike can do a lot to disarm the types of people who would otherwise run you off the road.

  • What do people that are for the first time moving to a place where is snows need to know?
  • Winter Cycling Tips:

Studded tires make riding a bicycle on ice much safer. The front one insures you won't fall on your face, the rear one helps give you enough traction to move forward.

Full coverage fenders will keep your bike significantly cleaner, which means it corrode far less. And they keep snow/slush/water from flying up at you too.

Cold drains batteries much quicker. Consider getting a dynamo lighting setup so you don't have to rely on batteries.

Your body generates a significant amount of heat while cycling, so it is best to dress so you will be somewhat cold the first mile or two, then you are more likely to be comfortable for the rest of the ride.

  • State Bicycle Co.
  • Pros: Cool paintjobs, parts tend to be of ok quality.

Cons: Frames are less than perfect and may have alignment issues. Buying a bike on the internet means you are getting something lazily slapped together and thrown in a box, so if you are not a skilled bicycle mechanic, parts will likely wear out quicker than normal due to poor adjustment. The model you are looking at is missing a front brake, so you will be unable to stop if the chain falls off.

  • Can "bullhorn" handlebars be used backwards as a café-/cruiser-style handlebar?
  • You can, but you likely won't get as good of result compared to handlebars designed for upright riding. Also, most bullhorn bars have a diameter of 23.8mm, which limits the brake levers and shifters you can attach. There are plenty of swept back bars that don't feel like beach cruiser bars. North Road style bars are made by a number of companies, and worth a look. If being rather narrow is important, check out the Nitto Bosco.
