  • I see what you are saying, but thats where the collaborative effort comes in. The only reason you are able to get to a solution so efficeintly with windows is because the base level users of windows are more educated in their OS. There is 25+ years of effort from millions of base level or above users. The fact that windows hasnt changed very much since 98 helps alot too, The solutions from all those years ago generally still apply.

Edit: also those solutions are noticed by microsoft and often get implemented directly into the OS.

All that is to say we need YOU, and users like you, to recreate the educational enviorments that seem so second nature to us with windows.

Its a very positive feedback loop we make a forum post "hey I have this issue" and either someone would allready have a solution or youd figure it out with help from the community and update the post with your workaround or fix, etc. This still exists obviously but I feel like we dont appreciate enough how many years of this had to happen before we got to the point we are now with windows.

I can understand not feeling like you have the free time for all of this effort. but to me the only reason we feel that way is because we still have windows as a fallback that works. Where as we didnt see linux or mac os as a viable alternative back then.

  • I find it very interesting that as a windows user, for years learning the OS was this collaborative effort for me and the community at large. Wed google everything, find obscure forums with equally obscure sollutions, and then eventually youtube tutorials. It was always a community educatiing themselves further in infinite directions.

Why does it seem like people dont want this with linux? I get that it might be too slow for some people and they just need something to "work". I see so many people on various comment sections saying "yeah i tried it had issues and switched back" basically the same experience that the video portrayed. Why was that same person able to suffer through windows for 25+years but this is just "too much".

I personally feel that most of the linux community has been a breath of fresh air. I feel stupid sure, but at the same time its rewarding to communicate with others and find a solution.

Even some people within the linux community feel this way, telling users to simply read the man page or the official forums to find solutions rather than teach them to use the man pages and arch wiki for example. Its honestly baffling to me on both ends.

Open question to all: what is your level of profiency? How do you learn about linux? Do you think there is a problem or is it a loud minority of users?

  • Im honestly pirating everything. There is a piracy megathread on github and reddit probably has a lemmy mirror too im unaware of.

Here are some sites and tools i use!

    any decent VPN. For torrenting

    Qbittorrent for downloading them

Ublock origin on all websites esp. spotify, youtube, + any news/articles.

Alternate player for twitch adblock twitch

Xtra for ad free mobile twitch

Jellyfin for streaming movies and tv. Self hosted

  • I am also hoping and waiting for a modchip or exploit. I'm curious to see what the hardware can actually do when its removed from the chains of big N.

Hell Yeah, genuinely felt like everyone around me caved the boycott within a week. Nice to see the few still holding out.

Heres a song i listen to when im feeling anxious.

Putting too much thought and energy into these things can often backfire. Dont stop pushing the issue enrirely because if you arent comfortable at arms length, thats a discussion you need to have with isla for sure. But isla also needs (probably alot) time to figure out how they feel. its up to you to determine if its worth waiting and if isla actually intends to follow through.

  • Im also lifetime nintendo fan (since snes), so its easy to be the hater when we know how good they can be. Kinda fucked up that desperation is the biggest source of innovation and good consumer practices.

You seem logical, but I wouldnt blame you if you had a switch 2 sitting <10ft from you(social pressure etc). If people dont stop feeding them while theyre at their worst nothing is going to change. until Switch2 is hacked Im not getting one. Im good here with ryujinx and modded 3ds.

  • Nintendo is really just speed running a downfall at this point. So sad since the devs at nintendo can really make some incredible art with limited time and hardware.

That being said they can shoot a child in broad daylight at this point and alot of the nintendo fandom still wouldnt bat an eye so... maybe theyre here to stay.

  • RAM

  • Braindead responses and honestly probably just bait anyone passing through, ignore this fool. Ubuntu base install(gnome), in my experience uses less than 2gb of ram at idle. (Even less when using xfce or lxqt) Dummy added bloat to his system and then came on here to removed about nothing. either that or hes a bot, troll or both.

  • I cannot find it, but my gf showed me this tiktok where a person made an extremely compentent remix within the fortnite music mode. It was a completely original work made of songs within fortnite it was very impressive. All that is to say Im not a fan of low effort work when just a small amount more could turn it into something new and interesting. Monitizing it is just an extra fu imo.

I do get what youre saying about struggling for money, but even so ive seen street artists with some insane talent and or ingenuity. Im of the belief that everyone can practice at something and make a living off of it even if its something wed consider mundane like... sweeping a floor. Im going to look up a professional sweeper right now on youtube and find someone with insane skill. And im sure the same is true with any task or art.

  • True. But at the same time If little to no effort is being put in, it does ride the line of being fair use. So if they are monitizing it which i dont think they were doing 15 years ago I find that kind of scummy. but other than that i look at it as the same thing as those AMVs back in the day. Just something someone made for the love of the source material.

  • Well said, however there are universally accepted indicators within litterature that are used to convey such tone. Not to mention they completely lacked any connotative words that would have helped the average person decipher that instantly. My original message "youre being cheeky right?" was litterally questioning "what side are you on?" because without tone or connotation they might actually hold these beliefs. I think we can agree that they could have easily wrote the original message using these litterary devices to convey the message and connotation perfectly

"It used to be pulp literature, cinema, comics, television, Rock'n'Roll and VHS that spoiled our young. Now it's definitely video games."

  • Thats sad if they actually consider what they are doing art. Ive been out of the loop for a while but when I saw people making this stuff 15 years ago, it seemed like a thing a niche community was doing. I dont think anyone took it seriously. I still find songs that sound better sped up like this one is very funny try this one at 1.5 or 1.75 speed. Game changer kinda hits like rapgod from eminem
