They do separate private Stories (that supposedly are only shared with people you whitelist) and public Stories, and the same with DM.
I know as I have used Snapchat back in 2021, before I got heavily interested in privacy.
Maybe some things have changed, but they do still sell, promote and do marketing stuff telling that it is private. Yeah, we do know it's false, but trust me that marketing can be a powerful force.

It's still not comparable. Only what causes any kind of verifiable harm (physical, reputational, economic, psychological, psychiatric, etc.) can be considered bad, immoral, and unethical.
