Silly furry boy who goes to college and is into a variety of things such as the furry community, mapmaking, privacy, history, and geopolitics! :3

  • Alright great! I just think it’s good but we need to tell people what it actually is, and how it works, otherwise they’ll be confused. It’s like telling someone in the 80s about email.

  • Sure thing! Where do you usually post about it so I have some reference?

I do wish I could help more but I don’t really have much experience in coding or whatever, I’m just an average guy

  • Mostly with outreach or suggesting features to make it better/easier to use for non techy people, I am very passionate about it and want to help spread the word if I can :3

  • I would really like to help the team with this, I think the fediverse just needs more structure and a shared vision.

  • That would be cool. I think it’s more that people don’t know about it, I only really found out once I started getting into the whole privacy and Linux niche, I think if they just had more funding for adverts they really could do something great.

  • Yeah exactly, but the issue is how do we spread the word about it and get a lot more people on it? We’d need to have big celebrities get on it, the same strategies that MySpace, Twitter, and Discord used to grow their popularity when they first were growing. Also, where we would put these adverts? Most people use the same sort of social media nowadays, so it’s kinda redundant telling them on there, it’s like someone saying to move to twitter while posting on mastodon.

  • I don’t think Jake likes exercising as much as he says x3

  • I 100% agree here, it feels like a microcosm of Reddit which already leans quite left, but even more radical. I left numerous times on the fediverse due to it’s huge political echo chamber, it’s something really frustrating as the platform is meant to be for everyone but it seems to be mostly populated by one viewpoint and nearly always Americans or Europeans.

Most mainstream platforms do have these sorts of demographics and politics yes, but even they have quite sizeable communities for ethnic, political and religious minorities where they can have their own space. The fediverse doesn’t really have that and it kinda sucks.

I really feel you with the lack of religious talk here, Reddit has tons of it for every major rellgion out there, and Lemmy has.. nothing? As a Indian Muslim on here, I’d like to have a space to talk about my beliefs with others, but the Islamic communities on here are all ghost towns. Reddit on the other hand, is very populated with Muslims and has discussions daily on those sub reddits.

  • And this is sort of the annoying part for me, if you want something that respects your privacy better than mainstream social media, you have to put up with way less people, posts, comments and communities. I really wish there was some major platform which was as big as the mainstream but was it’s own thing, I know mastodon is the biggest but it’s still not big enough meanwhile something like bluesky which came way after is even more popular than it

  • I actually think that would really help for a lot of people

  • That and I think it sort of ruins the whole experience, Lemmy is supposed to be its own thing, it feels kind of lazy to just copy a question from Reddit knowing the original author of it won’t see it

  • This is very cute

  • It’s a whole gauntlet you need to through to get any job nowadays. First you have to make your resume ATS compatible to even have a shot at it being seen by a human. Most often you’ll get rejected by it, but if you aren’t, then you move onto the interview. There, you did the interview, now it’s a total gamble if anything happens, many times companies just interviews for legal requirements and already have an insider candidate in mind, but even if you’ve passed this, then you need to do an invasive drug test, and even after alll that hard work, you may just get fired in the first few weeks if they feel like it.

So I can get why a lot of people including me just don’t really see it as that important, and kind of still want to be silly teenagers when we clearly aren’t x3

  • Meanwhile we still have snow here daily

  • Nor do they have huge milkers, what a shame huh?

  • Yea I get what you mean, you dont want too little acitivity or it feels dead. I also mostly use discord for chatting but I have element as a secondary messenger. Most of the rooms I’m in are pretty active thankfully.

  • Poor thing..

  • I kinda prefer having little activity, it helps me be able to go about my day and not check my phone all the time in case I miss anything
