I look at it from a bit of a different perspective. If my friends cant be bothered to answer me when I call or reply to a Signal/SMS message, then I don't think they value me as a friend and thus I shouldn't really waste my efforts on them. I did lose some friends because I don't use social media, but to be honest, I'd rather have the few who appreciate me enough to reply to me with "traditional" methods, than try to get a hold of people who are obsessed with facebook.
If someone thinks I'm a anti-social arsehole because I don't have IG/facebook, thats their loss and my win. I couldn't care less about such weirdos.
Eh, you don't have to use it. I quit facebook in 2011, I've been fine without it. I'm also not on IG, tiktok, or any other ones. Just IRC and this place here.
Hehe. Funnily enough, English is the 3rd non-native language I learned but the only one I actually know these days. I've forgotten pretty much everything of the others.
I'm not logged into youtube with any device because google demands to know my phone number in order to "verify" its me, logging into my youtube account. So as a solution I just don't log in anymore. I still watch stuff though.
Should've showed her the clip from The Office where Erin(?) takes a picture with a disposable camera and then throws the it in the trash and wonders why people use them, seems such a waste to throw it away and never see the pictures.
The sync thing would require a account of some sort. And some other tracking stuff. I'm fine with not having any. I don't watch so much youtube that I forget what I watched and what I didn't watch. But I get the desire to have some way of syncing.
Freetube has a thing where it attempts through Invidious first, if thats down, it gets the stuff straight from youtube.
I use Freetube. Its a app, you don't sign in, you can subscribe to stuff but those are stored locally (as I understand it?), adblock, sponsorblock, hide shorts etc are built in. Of course since you don't use it with a account, you can't comment, but that's just a nice bonus feature. You can still read the comments if you so choose. Because it doesn't load all the trackers and bullshit, its also about a billion times lighter than the youtube page, which is nice since my laptop is 700 years old and struggles to run anything, really.
It does have "popular" and "trending" pages but those rarely work, another nice bonus.
The only downside is that there is no "sort by popular" option when browsing a channels videos. But all in all, highly recommend it. Apparently there are other such apps available but thats the only one I've used.
Yeah we need a good mix of things. Solar, wind, hydro, nuclear.. Why not burn trash for electricity as well, unless we figure out excellent ways to recycle everything. Coal, gas and oil fuels should obviously be phased out as fast as possible, as much as possible.
I've never connected mine to the interwebs, never updated it, always used Calibre to transfer books to it via USB, it still works as well as it did when I bought it, decade+ ago.

I use IRC daily. Theres rarely a time when someone is not speaking. And its not like I'm on 300 channels. I'm just on two. One of them is very active, the other one is for me and a few friends and is less active.
Sure, theres not thousands of channels full of people chatting all the time anymore. But once you find a nice server/channel, you'll have a great time. Apparently the file sharing places are still going as well but I haven't bothered to look into those.
Yeah it is the most difficult method, but I think if you just prepare yourself to it, amp yourself up with "I know its going to be hard as fuck but fuck that I'm gonna do it" and it'll be easier. Lots of fuck yous were said and cursing does help. Just make sure nobody you care about is there to be cursed at lol
