Aargh.

  • Still have the habit of popping the hood when i get home and checking

For engine oil, its better to check it 20-30 minutes after turning the engine off, or before turning the engine on. When the engine has been running, the oil is all over the engine, it takes a few moments to settle back down in the oil pan. Depending how quickly after running you check the oil, you'll get variable results on the dip stick.

For coolant, thats easier because the reservoirs usually have a hot and cold lines so it doesn't matter too much, as long as its between the lines, you are good.

As a car mechanic I can tell you your habit is extremely good. If you notice the fluid levels are going down, take it to the mechanic and at best you'll save yourself thousands for not having to fix or change a blown engine.

  • ESL?

Tsundoku (積ん読) is the phenomenon of acquiring reading materials but letting them pile up in a home without reading them.

Seems to be quite universal phenomenonemon. I wonder if theres a word for someone who spends a year or two buying books, letting them pile up and then has a few month period where they read for hours and hours every day. If there is, that would be me.

  • And it sucks even as that.

    The shareholders are morons.

  • The latest Garbage Time was excellent lunchtime viewing!

  • Youtube:

Dank Pods/Garbage Time - shouty Australian doing stuff

James Channel - less shouty Australian tinkering with things, mainly old gaming stuff

Anttimation - Finnish history things with beautiful graphics

    Stefan Milo - Anthropology things

Lazerpig - a gay, drunk, Scottish pig yelling about things.

  • The squares will be heard.

  • I don’t want to start a war here, but I don’t get why people argue that the EU is better than the US

Probably because the EU is better than the US. Just because its not perfect and has flaws, doesn't make it as bad or worse as the US.

  • Indeed it is. If it had amazing capabilities and performance off road, if it was bulletproof, if its body panels (and apparently wheels) wouldnt fall off, if it had perfect self driving capabilities... It would still be stupid.

But it doesn't have any of those tings. Its extremely stupid.

  • "Is it floating?"

    "Yes."

    "Investigation over."

  • Oh okay. The more I learn about the insurance system over there, the more confused I am.

But I'm confused anyway so its probably a me problem.

  • Its rather obvious that the other guy meant health insurance. I didn't even notice the different word they used by (presumably) accident, I guess my brain auto corrected it lol. But thanks for pointing that out.

  • Your life insurance rates go up if they find out.

Is this some sort of American joke that I'm too European to understand?

Excuse my over used joke, but that cant be true?

  • Yeah I know, I used to be a car mechanic lol.

I mean I'm not trying to argue that ICE is better than EV. Thats why I said that I completely understand that ICE's are dinosaurs, looking in the sky wondering what that light, that is getting brighter, is. I like ICE's for emotional and weird reasons, not because they are easy to use, easy to fix, easy to run etc.

  • For me, writing a journal, notes or to-do list on a app or text file is completely useless. I just forget about it. I forget what words I used, did I write in the dialect or the official written language way (my native language has a bunch of different ways to write shit and I mix them up constantly because I'm a useless dummy). Once I hit "save" thats the equivalent of erasing it from my brain memory.

If I write things down on paper, I remember the action of writing, I remember what words I wrote, I even remember in which spot in the notebook it was, for example, half a page down from the spot where I circled a important task the previous week or one page after the spot where I crossed over a bunch of text.

  • I just meant that the other languages I once learned, I don't know anymore. :D Its been such a long time since I used them at all, I can understand some individual words if I read them, I can say "my name is ____" and "hello" in those languages but thats about it.

But yeah, I know how to speak my native language and English, thats two, so its technically correct that I know "multiple" languages :D

  • Its not about the performance or whatever. Its about how amazing it is that the things work at all. Pieces of metal flying up and down, going round and round, opening valves, closing valves, spraying atomized go-juice mixed with air at with amazingly precise timing and amounts....

Its a miracle they don't just blow up 2 seconds after you start them. But instead they keep on going for hundreds of thousands of kilometers without much issue.

  • That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that.

  • Thats fine. I don't need to deal with the majority of the population. I'm good with the handful of friends I have.
