The Lord of the Rings trilogy, by Tolkien
I return to it ever couple of years, always in bad times and often in good times too. Everyone is trying to do the best they can, contributing what they can. Only few characters are at all malicious. Emotions are deep and powerful, portrayed lightly. The whole story is a great collaboration where wildly different people overcome their differences to reach a single, all-encompassing goal.
“Améliorer”… selon quelle définition ? Ce n’est plus un bien commun si il n’est pas utilisé par tout le monde! 🤮
You did great!
Remember to follow a diet you can keep up in the long run. 5 kilos in 3.5 months is ready a lot, don’t crash and burn and don’t overdo it, but be proud of your achievements!
I’ve been stubbornly reading Dürenmatt in German. It’s a language level significantly higher than mine, so it takes time and effort, but with a couple of pages at a time I’ve passed a third of the book.
I like it like I like doing endurance sports: the achievement is what I am after. I think it’s a good book, but I am honestly not able to judge any further than the plot and the setting of some scenes.
I was so disappointed I just forgot of its existence until now.

I’m normally pretty good about falling asleep, but I have a bout of insomnia a while back, I’ll share what worked for me.
Make it a ritual: every day do things in the same order. Don’t make it over complicated, but some 10 minutes to wind down by always performing the same actions in the same order. Example: brush teeth, select clothes for tomorrow, change in your pajamas, go to bed.
Write down your recurring thoughts (this one was particularly useful to me): if there is a thought that you just can’t let go, write it down and assure yourself you’re not going to forget it, you are putting it aside for tomorrow. Then the next morning read what you wrote and consider it a minute.
An a bonus:
The bed is for sleeping: don’t do anything else other than sleeping in bed. If sleeping is not happening, give up, stroll around a minute, and try again in 5 minutes. (honestly, this one didn’t work for me, but maybe it works for you!)

While I love this instance, I would totally understand if you shut it down to preserve yourself. I think this little space is great, and I thank you for setting it up and being very on top of problems creeping up. I hope solutions will be found.
People here have such impressive reads! I’ve read some three pages over the last week, for no real reason other than “life can be busy”. With such a low bar, I hope to read more next week!
I randomly started Deathworlders, suggested by another user, and I’m enjoying it more than I expected. It’s a light read, and a bit disjoint (as you’d expect from a serialization), but fun and with some good solid scenes. I plan on reading a bit more of it before dropping out.
Finally some good news! Let’s keep it up!
I always find the connections between politics and economics extremely interesting. This is a good read
I enjoyed Neuromancer much better than Snowcrash, I have to say. I’m particularly blown away by how much it still holds up! It could have been written yesterday. While I felt Snowcrash aged more, mostly for the style.
Three fifth season is really good! I felt the second book was a little “less”, but it sets up the third book really well.
I haven’t read The Moon is a harsh Mistress yet, but Stranger in a strange Land is amazing.
I use Goodreads but not for it’s intended purpose. I just like keeping track of what I have read through the years, so it’s my personal reading history. I also rate almost everything I read, to compare with the global rating.
I created the profile because of this other website: novelty-insights.com (sorry, I don’t know how to make it a link)
if you have a Goodreads account, you can export your account data and upload them to novelty insight, it will give you some stats on your reading habits. It helped me notice some bias I have in my reading. Check it out!
Not racism, but definitely (unconscious) bias of the researchers
Except that’s not the source of this problem. AI can be great at detecting patterns with little data, if it’s properly trained. But this article is clear that the reason of this failure is in the lack of training data. This means that the AI never learned kids and dark-skinned people exist and it’s unreliable in detecting them.
Peanut butter. Somehow, I like peanuts well enough, but I can’t stand peanut butter. It’s literally the only food I avoid, and the only food I had a rough reaction to while pregnant. I’d like to at least not hate it, but I have such a gut reaction to eating it, I don’t see a future I would ever get over it.
Heinlein. He far from unknown, but he should get even more recognition. Stranger in a strange Land is a deeply philosophical book wrapped in a scifi page turner.
Philip K. Dick is also not as famous as he should be. In particular with The Man in the high Castle, pure poetry!
Saga is great! I like the story, but the drawings really bring it home for me.
