  • None of those in that list are fleeing soldiers, which is the case I listed. You are obviously incapable of reading comprehension, so it is meaningless for me to reply further.

  • An attack on an unarmed vessel during a ceremonial voyage 2000 miles from the illegal war… yeah no. Not a valid target.

You are literally allowed to shoot fleeing soldiers, under the Geneva Conventions. I agree that the war itself is illegal, but under the laws of war it was a valid target. Please stop saying false things because they feel "truthy" to you.

  • Looking in from the outside, it seems to me that large parts of the US population have no moral compass. Putin is comic book evil, and yet large parts of Republican voters think Putin is a great guy. In non-Soviet Russia, of all shithole places.

  • America First as defined by Trump explicitly means "We can fuck with you, you can't fuck with us". They are not hiding it or packaging it in moral terms of universal ethics or the golden rule.

So there is no "gocha" moment here. Trump explicitly doesn't think EU countries are his equal, so appealing to hypocrisy is meaningless. Trump is doing exactly what he said he would do.

  • So fuck Vance, but it seems to be perfectly consistent with America First?

For Trump "America First" means exploiting other countries. If Vance can get an exploitable government elected in Hungary, then why wouldn't it be good for "America First"?

It is a stated goal for Trump to break up the EU. To be able to force one-sided trade deals with weaker isolated countries instead. Victor Orban is the person doing most to sabotage the EU. Hence it is in "America First"'s interest for Orban to be reelected.

  • We need pirate radio

Eh, what? In the old days, the means of mass communication were limited or expensive, so sure stuff like pirate radio made sense.

But nowadays, anybody can start an Internet radio station for very little money. Or a YouTube channel or whatever. The problem is people not listening, not that they are prohibited or prevented from listening to you.

  • I hope you are being sarcastic and not an ignorant monster.

The war is evil. But a military ship is legally a valid target. The lying characterization that a warship is not a valid target is what we object to. We don't like liars.

  • Russia's invasion of Ukraine started as a military exercise. Just because a military unit is on an "exercise", it does not mean it is not combat capable, or a valid military target.

You are in serious need of education.

    Try a mirror.

  • Depends? Morality like "don't steal" is partially a consequence of game theory. Game theory is math.

Is math a social construct - obviously not completely.

  • If you look at Trump's approval rating, it only really starts to move when gas prices move. Also historically. I think it is quite obvious where OP got their idea from.

  • Hungary is Putin's lapdog, effectively supports Russia in Ukraine and sabotages the EU from within. As well as Victor Orban being the enemy of basic democratic norms.

The Trump administration literally sees the EU as their enemy. Trump wants to break up the EU because the EU is strong enough to protect EU members against Trump. Trump wants Europe to be a weaker group of small countries, that Trump can individually exploit in one-sided trade deals. The Trump administration hates Democracy, and hates us.

JD Vance arrives in Hungary to back Orbán's re-election bid

    www.bbc.com /news/articles/cyv16lq2rp1o
  • there are sources that substantiate him saying something very similar.

As in, you can go read Trump's actual post yourself.

I don't like this shitpost. It is too close to reality, so it effectively becomes misinformation, doesn't add anything to the world.

  • Nope, it was explicitly every single Israeli. Explicitly stated. A mod has removed the comment now, so I can't link to it - but that kinda proves my point (unless you think I am making up everything).

I do get the impression that lots of people here believe the sentiment in that comment. While being too self aware to actually state it in writing.

  • Are they shooting those ships without warning?

So if I warn civilians that I am going to shoot them first, then it is OK to shoot them. According to your advanced moral theories, I assume.

Edit: Israel blockades Palestine, US blockades Cuba, but it’s terrorism when Iran or Yemen do it. Sure, bud.

So because "Israel bad" or "US bad", it is good that the Houthies shoot random innocent ship crews?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataboutism

  • Lets shoot at some innocent ships and their innocent crews. Terrorism is fun! Hell yeah!

Note: My comment is a joke. Unlike the comment I am replying to.

  • I just had a guy here tell me that shooting civilians in Israel was OK, because there are no Israeli civilians.

The anti-semitism here is effing out of control.

  • if the DOJ no longer wants to prosecute the case, isn’t this just the SCOTUS saying, " OK?" which was probably a foregone conclusion after the Solicitor General told them they were abandoning the case back in Feb?

Courts can refuse to dismiss a case, though it is rare. In https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/434/22/ lower courts had refused a dismissal, though that was overridden by the Supreme Court with the argument that dismissal

cannot fairly be characterized as "clearly contrary to manifest public interest."

In the case of Bannon, it seems to me that it is very much contrary to public interest to dismiss. We are in extraordinary times, and this is an extraordinarily corrupt dismissal. So if we think it was a foregone conclusion, then it is only because we know SCROTUS is corrupt, right? Not because the law said so.
