Why is the banner of this community the Barbie movie poster?
That movie came out a year and a half ago. Can we update the banner? Was there a discussion about this that I missed?
i take psych damage every time
[meta] absolutely nothing against the instance, but these get me all the time.
Add a rule to not allow news related to USA.
I suggest adding a rule to not allow USA news here, as it would make this community useless in the long run.
Thinking about creating a poll for the best movies of 2024, any recommendation how to do it? Obviously, privacy should be managed well, but it should be easy to present the results as well

Mods: The Community Icon and Banner are Both Broken
The community banner and icon are both broken and seem to be hosted away from Lemmy World on fry.gs
which I believe is/was the home instance for one of the original mods. That instance appears to be no longer functional.
Not sure how long they've been broken; I just noticed that when I flushed my cache recently they weren't working and then realized the banner and icon links the API returns no longer work.

Update: I did find the banner. I don't have a copy of the banner, but I do have the icon in my instance's proxy/cache if you want to save it and re-apply it from Lemmy World.

Please do not feed the trolls.
We have added a clarification to rule number one in the sidebar: "Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on."
Research shows that disengaging from antisocial behavior is the best way to minimize and eliminate it. It is also the best choice for personal mental health. Lemmy provides a functionality to "block" (mute) users who are not contributing to your positive experience of the platform. In addition to reporting (and not responding to) rule breaking content, the community mods encourage you to use Lemmy's tools to curate the best, most healthful experience. Enjoy!

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. *Do not respond to rule-breaking content; r
Could we consider avoiding US election questions in this community?
Hello everyone,
This community regularly gets questions about the US elections.
This is an important topic, but if there is something that does not lack on Lemmy, it's communities to discuss about politics:
- !politics@lemmy.world
- !progressivepolitics@lemmy.world
- !usa@lemmy.ml
- !political_weirdos@lemmy.world
- !politics_no_um@lemmy.world
- !politics@beehaw.org
- !politicsunfiltered@lemmy.world
- !pleasantpolitics@slrpnk.net
And many others: https://lemmyverse.net/communities?query=politics
I am personally subscribed to this community to learn general things (the question about the viking funeral legal aspect is a good example), and US elections questions seems to always bring more political debate than knowledge sharing.
What do you all think?
See you in the comments.
Looking for additional mods
Hello everyone,
I am at the moment the only active mod of this community, which is usually not recommended.
I am hence looking for other mods. The moderation load is very low, people on this community are usually nice.
Please comment with a mander.xyz account (reports do not federate) below if you want to become a mod.
Locking this community and redirect to !interestingshares@lemmy.zip
Hello everyone,
I have been posting on this community for the last 6 months, and while posts usually get some traction, and from time to time other people would post too, it can feel a bit lonely to be the only one posting here.
As !interestingshare@lemmy.zip is another active community on the same topic, I am thinking about locking the current community and redirect to the lemmy.zip one. Locking this community means that all the past content would still be accessible, but people wouldn't be able to post anymore.
In case you want to post to !interestingshare@lemmy.zip, please note that the rules ask for a prefix such as [Image], [Video] or [Article], as some clients allow to filter based on those (such as Tesseract: https://tesseract.dubvee.org/)
Feel free to share if you have any feedback.

Survey Results
I've let the survey run for long enough now I suppose (at least I'm not getting any new responses) so I'm making this post with the "results". If anyone is interested in the raw data I'll post it but for now I'll just focus on the conclusion I've drawn from it.
For the most part responses only varied slightly but most of the questions were only there to help make a decision about the core question: What do you want to happen with this instance now?. The responses to which varied a lot compared to the other questions.
There were some votes against opening up the instance to other series discussions but I myself and the majority of votes are in favor so that's what will happen. However I really dislike seeing empty discussion threads so there will be some rules in place so this doesn't end up like a spam machine. As is with all things in life these are subject to change.
#1: There must be at least 3 users interested in regular discussions for a series to create a community for i
Can someone help me find a copy-pasta mockering anarchism
What I remember that was a policial or investigator that was in a crime scene and found that one suspect was in the public, and he couldn't arrest him because it was against the philosophy of anarchist or some shit, and when running behind the suspect he could walk in the street because it was funded by public money, I think I read it here on Lemmy, but I can't find it lol
Any category of communities we haven't covered in the recent threads?
Hello everyone,
As you may know, recently I started a few threads on specific categories of communities
- manual hobbies
- video games
- music
- animals
- art
- fandoms
- casual conversations
- etc.
Feel free to have a look at the recent threads in this community, most of them are there.
We might restart that cycle at some point (maybe next week). In the meantime, do you think there is any topic which should have their own thread that we haven't covered yet?
I think posting Mastodon links to toots that does not contain photos only should be allowed and encouraged here.
It just came to my knowledge that lemmy crawler display the content of the mastodon post when you post it as a link in lemmy posts.
Which make me think about the cost savings for every server that can apply this and save the costs of serving photos.
What does the Mod here think?
Edit 1: after testing the lemmy crawler crawl Bluesky, Mastodon and Nostr, so all what I said can also be applied to other microblog services.
Edit 2: Just wanted to add that it will also enhance accessibility for users.
MBFC bot
The news mod team has asked to no longer be a part of the project until we have a composite tool that polls multiple sources for a more balanced view.
It will take a few hours, but FOR NOW there won't be a bot giving reviews of the source.
The goal was simple: make it easier to show biased sources. This was to give you and the mods a better view of what we were looking at.
The mod team is in agreement: one source of truth isn't enough. We are working on a tool to give a composite score, from multiple sources, all open source.
