Steam Autumn Sale Turn-Based Strategy Game Recommendations
HoMM3HD
The most classic installment is on sale for only $3.74 during the autumn sale, which is nearly at its historical low. After receiving a generous tip, the tavern keeper said: "This HD version does not include Shadows of Death and Armageddon's Blade." Friends who want to play should note that this version lacks random maps, elemental towns, and neutral creatures.
Songs of Conquest
The highest-selling spiritual successor has surpassed 50K copies sold after finishing its EA this year. During the autumn sale, it is priced at $13.99, which is close to its historical low. Given the game's level of completion, it's quite worth it.
Pennon and Battle
If you’re not a fan of the pixel art in Song of Conquest, you might want to check out the 3D model version, Pennon and Battle. The game was released before the leaks about Olden Era, but it incorporates many gameplay elements from those leaks, such as the Hive faction, online arena battles, and other designs. In addition to the classic gameplay of HoMM, the heroes also feature external progression, allowing players to spend points on a talent tree after playing a few matches, which makes it increasingly addictive. Currently, there are 5 factions, 6 types of magic, 7 tiers of units, and 3 branches, with the designs of the Mechanical Alliance and the Eternal Night Council being particularly distinctive. Most importantly, the game is updated weekly, and even if you haven't played, you can suggest ideas in the forums and groups. The initial release was quite discouraging, but most issues have been addressed now. The price is also at a historical low, only $12.59.
Silence of the Siren
The game is a sci-fi themed version of HoMM, introducing initiative to determine the order of unit actions. The consumption of magic for combat and exploration skills is quite high, and even equipping ordinary items requires resource expenditure. Currently, there are 3 races, and during the autumn sale, it is priced at nearly $23.99!
Computer game distributor said Operation al-Aqsa Flood removed from Stream at request of UK police, emails show.

Fursan al-Aqsa: The Knights of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, released in 2022, lets gamers play as the fictional character “Ahmad al-Falastini,” a young Palestinian student, as he takes revenge on Israeli soldiers who tortured him and killed his family. An updated version of the game called Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the name Hamas uses for its October 7, 2023 attack, was released on Steam earlier this month.
Nijm, who identifies as a Muslim Brazilian, said that his game was intended to be a political protest and was not affiliated with any specific Palestinian group.
“I tried to show that we Palestinians have rights to resist against Israeli occupation and the genocide we clearly see [on] a daily basis on the news. But I also like to always stay ‘under the thin red line’ between freedom of speech and ‘terrorist propaganda,’” Nijm told Al Jazeera.
Operation al-Aqsa Flood’s cut scene was intended to be provocative and “to ‘trigger’ Zionists”, Nim said, but the gameplay itself is more toned down, with players immediately failing if they shoot unarmed civilians.
“I do not blame Valve nor Steam; the blame is on the UK government and authorities that are pissed off by a video game. On their flawed logic, the most recent Call of Duty Black Ops 6 should be banned, as well,” he said.
“As you play as an American soldier and go to Iraq to kill Iraqi people. What I can say is that we see clearly the double standards.”

In the past week, I've already spent dozens of hours on the new DLC of Brotato and Vampire Survivors, it's so addictive! In a few weeks, there will also be the official releases of DarkchaserBattletide and Jotunnslayer. There are just too many survivor-like games to play!

It’s been about 8 years since I played this on PS4 for the first and only time so far. All I remember is a library, some paintings and that the atmosphere was pretty amazing. It’s not your typical survival horror experience where at one point you just Run&Gun your way through hordes of undeads. In the comments I read that you cannot rebind keys and other problems, this could be a no-go for some of you. Also, forced 16:9 aspect ratio is a thing.

Text-based Interactive Fiction games recommendations from Itch.io
This is a list of text-based IF’s (Interactive Fiction) that I and another user from itch.io, xSai or Bladed-Barbwire on Discord, made on itch.io, and I thought I’d share this here with you guys in case anyone is interested. All the credit goes to xSai for coming up with the idea. Also, note that, neither I nor xSai own the rights to any of these IF's; we are just recommending them to people as we believe they deserve more recognition and people might actually end up enjoying them. The list was made on itch.io and so, unfortunately, will have to be accessed from there for anyone wanting to access them from here. The list also had to be split into separate parts as we ran out of characters to use. All the IF’s are completely text-based, a few using some visuals and/or images, but none of them are full Visual Novels. Almost all of the IF's are made in Twine, with a few being made in ChoiceScript, Ren'py, or some other engine. Most of the IF's are free-to-play, some are pay-to-play, and some are free until they're completed and/or a price is decided. Some of the IF's have extra DLC's or bonus side content on their itch.io page or on the author's patreon, which are either free-to-play or pay-to-play. Most of the IF's can be played in a browser (works best in the itch.io app, Chrome, Firefox and some other browsers. Not guaranteed to work in every browser) with some also having a download option, but there are some IF's that only have a download option and no browser one. Most of the IF's can be played on PC and mobile, but some are not compatible for mobile. A lot of the IF's are also unfinished WIP's (Work In Progress); some of them are already completed, close to completion, just started, or may have been discontinued. Some of the links of the IF's also don't work, stop working for a while before working again, or ask for a password to access; perhaps due to being discontinued, shut down for maintenance, or for some other reason. We will continue to keep updating the list as we find more IF’s. We also have a discord server, a lemmy community, a subreddit, a tumblr blog, and a cohost page dedicated just for this. If you, or anyone else have any IF’s you want to recommend, feel free to share them on here, the three itch.io topics, the discord server, the subreddit, the tumblr blog, or the cohost page (They have to be text-based IF’s from itch.io and need to have at least some kind of interactivity. IF’s from other sites, Visual Novels, or some other type of game will not be accepted). Or if you just want to talk, or ask me for some suggestions on which IF's to try, then feel free to do that as well. Anyway, thank you for your time, and I hope you have a good day, folks. Cheers! >Twine games with character customization - Part 1
Fallout 4 is a great game with big flaws
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/20867322
> This is a long post about the various aspects of Fallout, don't read it all unless you care to. Instead, find a section and comment on that so we can have a focused discussion if you prefer. > > ## Summary > I modded the ever loving crap out of Fallout 4 with minimal effort using the A Story Wealth mod pack . My reasoning was that on my first play through I found the world empty but I mainly enjoy stories and quests, which this modpack seemed to do. Also I didn't have time to spend modding and didn't want to get lost in that hellhole of doing it myself. This play through was long, about 150 hours (yikes) which is probably all the fallout I'll need for many years to come. I also used an addon to the modpack to make the game extremely difficult with healing items. More on that later. > > ## Mods > The mods here are really quite varied and I was surprised at how coherent they are. With Skyrim modding, I always felt that the mods are somewhat disjointed and it takes skilled modders to stitch together. Here in FO4 its impressive how stable the pack was and how well the quests worked together. The most standout mod by far is The Fens Sheriff Department which adds hours of story, actually interesting quests, and in my opinion content miles better than Bethesda's own content. It was worth coming back just for that alone. > > ## Story > ::: spoiler spoiler > After seeing what mods have done, I have no good words to say about FO4 in terms of story. The entire plot revolves around you getting your son back and its all in service of setting up the surprise that he isn't a child anymore. Its predictable, boring, etc. All of the factions are uninteresting. Minutemen are nobodies and their story is minimalist. So is the Railroad. The Brotherhood of Steel are cool in concept but can't back up their grit at all and end up being too friendly with zero depth to them as well. The Institute makes an attempt at depth but geez, its barely deeper than a puddle. I chose to end the game with the Fens Sheriff Department and it ended up being way more interesting despite the muted ending to their plot. If you're playing this game for story, don't. > ::: > > ## Graphics > I'll spend little time here, I didn't spend any time beautifying the game at all but it looks surprisingly good at times. But at other times, the engine is terrible. The way it handles LOD stuff is awful and graphical glitches and clipping are extremely common. And yet, I do enjoy the aesthetic. The art is charming as ever and my main and only complaint is that the wasteland itself is very one-note and could've used some changes. > > ## Engine > Take it out back and kill it. I won't blame the vanilla game entirely but mods didn't contribute to the instability of the game much. It has always been rough. In the city, due to a lack of proper culling you will get half your FPS or worse. My rig is very well equipped and still struggled to maintain 30-40fps in the cities. Then add in the few quest bugs that I had (mostly vanilla quests too) and the large amount of physics and items bugs and this really feels barely glued together in ways mods can't fix. This engine needs to be worked on. A lot. > > ## Characters/Followers > I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Fallout 4's followers. Dogmeat is great but the interaction is minimal and Nick Valentine is easily the best in my opinion. He's one of the few with a great set of dialog that actually makes use of the setting and feels grounded. Everyone else could almost belong in a different game. As with the story, a lot of the characters are poorly written and have lackluster dialog. The DLCs fix this but the main game struggles big time to ground everyone properly. I played the entire game with Heather Casdin and that was a real treat. She is what every follower could have been and provides really unique story commentary and relationship moments. It actually feels like you get to know her well instead of her just spouting backstory at you constantly. Bethesda take notes. > > ## Locations > One of the better noted parts of Fallout 4 and Skyrim are the random locations and storytelling within them. Only problem is, FO4 doesn't reward you often enough with location exploration beyond loot and thats not what people play fallout for in the first place. Its a mixed back here, some of the locations are very well done and are 10/10 settings where others are bland as mayo and waste your time. > > ## Settlements > As intrigued as I initially was a long time ago at launch with them, the settlement system really brings the game down. Its impressive, don't get me wrong but it eats up way too much of your time to configure and there isn't any real point in setting them up. Sim Settlements helps with this but it still misses the mark in my opinion. I hope this system returns but very diminished in terms of tedium. > > ## Gameplay > Guns feel good, fights are great. The mods all enhance that by giving the high stakes gunfights I really enjoy. Yet the game still became too easy despite me playing on survival. Needs just became annoying distractions. And being overencombered is just... awful. Especially with scrap being a thing and I hate scrap honestly. The scrap is a cool idea but has you doing the even more annoying part of Bethesda games, looking in every nook and cranny for a desk fan or box car. Its stupid and it takes you out of the game completely. I think this could have been fine if they toned it down, not every item needs to be able to be used like this. > > ## DLC > This was the highlight of my time because I had never played the DLC, I couldn't afford it back when this launched. Far Harbor blew me away with how cool it was and just really showed what parts of the base game were missing. The moral grays presented here were fun to work through and the quests unique. I wish Far Harbor was its own game almost. Nuka world feels more like a lightweight DLC but still shows that Bethesda can write decent stuff and have decent art when they try. I have no idea why the quality of these DLCs is so high when the rest of the game is kind of bland compared to FO3 or New Vegas. > > ## The Takeaways > I hope Bethesda gets their act together because FO4 was a pretty decent game. Not perfect but also very dated. Quests are mostly bland and are often fetch quests or don't reward you with much dialog or story. And the mods just show how easy it would be to get this stuff right the first time. The lack of grit to the story is something that really sucks in my opinion. Its not a game for kids clearly, there is blood and guts and mutants abound. So why don't any of the major characters die? Why don't they meet horrible ends? Why not have your son meet a horrible demise if you make the wrong choices? The only time any of that happens is the end of the game. Far too little far too late. The game just has absolutely no stakes to it, no impact. At least in Skyrim the Civil War shakes things up. Thats what I really wanted from this game is to feel like my actions were doing something and the mods really helped with that. > > If you made it through this wall of text, I appreciate it. I spent way too long on this but I felt like telling someone about my experiences. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun with this game but by the end I was exhausted of Fallout 4's short comings. Let me know what you think!
What game had the most hype cover dissapointing gameplay?

Godot fork- Redot emerges after recent events within the Godot project.
Redot Engine – Multi-platform 2D and 3D game engine - Redot-Engine/redot-engine
EDIT context from know your meme of all places :D : Apologies
Overview Godot Engine Blocking Controversy refers to a controversy surrounding the community manager for the game engine Godot blocking users on X / Twitter and, reportedly, GitHub over negative reactions to a social media post in support of indie games with LGBTQ+ and "woke" themes. The blocking became a subject of viral discussions on X and Reddit in late September 2024, with the hashtag #Wokot used by posters to refer to it.
Background On September 24th, 2024, an indie video game developer posted footage from the upcoming Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori on X[1] / Twitter, revealing that it was built using Unreal Engine 5. In the X[2] thread, user @kryztofcheski wrote, "Woke studios always use pre-built engines to make games because they can't build their own engines." In the following days, several X[3] users quote posted the post, mocking the presumption that gaming engines could be "woke" (example post shown below).

On September 27th, the official X[4] / Twitter account for Godot Engine, run by a community manager, made a post referencing @kryztofcheski's post, calling for indie developers to showcase their "woke" game built using the engine. The post (shown below) garnered over 1.7 million views, 2,000 reposts and 16,000 likes in three days.

In the following hours, Godot Engine blocked several developers and other users who replied to the post with criticisms. For example, on September 27th, 2024, developer funnygamedev reported being blocked on X[5] by the Godot Engine X account after asking them to focus on fixing and supporting Bitmap fonts (post shown below). On September 28th, indie developer and pixel artist @Cosmic_Scr wrote on X[6] that they were blocked by Godot Engine on X after replying with Godot Engine creator Juan Linietsky's quote "I deeply believe that any political discussion that puts labels to a group of people is one that should not have started." On September 28th, 2024, Godot Engine backer Starkium reported that they were blocked on X[7] by the account over a comment. Developer @dev_bonnie made a post about being blocked by Godot Engine on X,[15] writing, "Erm friendly fire" and pointing out that they are bisexual.

I'm so sorry, text of the original Reddit post below.
My family poops big. Maybe it's genetic, maybe it's our diet, but everyone births giant logs of crap. If anyone has laid a mega-poop, you know that sometimes it won't flush. It lays across the hole in the bottom of the bowl and the vortex of draining water merely gives it a spin as it mocks you. Growing up, this was a common enough occurrence that our family had a poop knife. It was an old rusty kitchen knife that hung on a nail in the laundry room, only to be used for that purpose. It was normal to walk through the hallway and have someone call out "hey, can you get me the poop knife"? I thought it was standard kit. You have your plunger, your toilet brush, and your poop knife. Fast forward to 22. It's been a day or two between poops and I'm over at my friend's house. My friend was the local dealer and always had 'guests' over, because you can't buy weed without sitting on your ass and sampling it for an hour. I excuse myself and lay a gigantic turd. I look down and see that it's a sideways one, so I crack the door and call out for my friend. He arrives and I ask him for his poop knife. "My what?" Your poop knife, I say. I need to use it. Please. "Wtf is a poop knife?" Obviously he has one, but maybe he calls it by a more delicate name. A fecal cleaver? A Dung divider? A guano glaive? I explain what it is I want and why I want it. He starts giggling. Then laughing. Then lots of people start laughing. It turns out, the music stopped and everyone heard my pleas through the door. It also turns out that none of them had poop knives, it was just my fucked up family with their fucked up bowels. FML. I told this to my wife last night, who was amused and horrified at the same time. It turns out that she did not know what a poop knife was and had been using the old rusty knife hanging in the utility closet as a basic utility knife. Thankfully she didn't cook with it, but used it to open Amazon boxes. She will be getting her own utility knife now.
[Edit: Common question - Why was this not in the bathroom instead of the laundry room? Answer. We only had one poop knife, and the laundry room was central to all three bathrooms. I have no idea why we didn't have three poop knives. All I know is that we didn't. We had the one. Possibly because my father was notoriously cheap about the weirdest things. So yes, we shared our poop knife.]
The title is a reference to The Legend of Zelda.
Eh, where is the source code then?
Edit: It appears this is what I want.
This might be a controversial opinion, but please hear me out: this guy is absolutely overhyped.
I saw the entire ZA/UM situation from the outside without having ever played Disco Elysium before, so I don't have any stake or bias in what happened. In my personal opinion there are 2 important notes: Yes, Kurvitz is responsible for the creation of one of the best games of all time. He also is a massive asshole who abuses his workers. Both of these can be true and don't contradict each other.
I can really recommend the Documentation by People Make Games about it, I think they made great and very neutral reporting on it, getting everybody's side of the story. But one think becomes increasingly clear throughout the video: the original creator is a huge egomaniac.
I came to dislike him the more I heard him talk. He spouts how he comes from this underground punk scene, but also betrays every value that he should hold. He doesn't think his workers are important and that they should just endure his wrath at all times. He doesn't see how multiple people can be of importance to a project besides him of course. As soon as the money came in he threw every value he said he'd hold aside to become a huge capitalist, even going so far as making his own shell company that preemptively held the rights to a sequel just so he can profit from it more.
This entire situation is his fault. A "punk" ignores all his anticapitalist values, gives all his intellectual property to a capitalist, capitalism ensues and he becomes bitter because he didn't get a greater slice of the pie.
Let me be clear: I think a sequel should involve him. But I also believe he shouldn't be in a lead game designer position, more of a "lead story designer/writer". He has shown to not be all to competent in that and he WILL abuse his workers again. Somebody needs to be above him to manage his insanity.
Nothing against you, but I think endlessly hyping him up won't lead to that or even a good outcome. He will squander everything that he will be given. He is not a good person, he is a "Rockstar Developer" and I mean that as an insult.
