❗️Israel refuses to release Gaza's Dr. Hussam Abu Safia and Dr. Marwan al-Hams in exchange deal

Israel has refused to release Dr. Hussam Abu Safia and Dr. Marwan al-Hams, two senior Palestinian doctors abducted from Gaza during the war, as part of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, a Hamas official told CNN.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital and lead physician for MedGlobal in Gaza, was taken at gunpoint in December 2024 during an Israeli raid on the hospital. Since his arrest, he has lost over 40kg and remains in solitary confinement under Israel’s “Unlawful Combatants Law,” which allows indefinite detention without charge or trial. He has reportedly been tortured, denied medical treatment, and held in harsh conditions, with rights groups warning his life is in grave danger.

Dr. Marwan al-Hams, the director of Gaza’s field hospitals, was abducted in July 2025 during a deadly raid in Khan Yunis. He was shot in the leg during the operation, and weeks later, his daughter Tasneem, a nurse, was also kidnapped in a separate incident by Israeli forces. At least 28 doctors from Gaza are currently being held in Israeli prisons, many in severe conditions without charge, while at least two senior physicians have died under torture in detention.
