NASA chief to defy agency's charter, terminating science
NASA's 1958 charter's top priority was, "the expansion of human knowledge of phenomena in the atmosphere and space." Is this how it ends?

NASA was created enthusiastically by Eisenhower, a Republican war hero who had governed American-occupied Germany during WWII and was the first supreme commander of NATO just prior to becoming president. He unleashed an era of American greatness, including the entire interstate highway system which unlocked decades of future commerce growth and is named after him. If you had to name a single president who embodied the Greatness of which one might want to Make America embody Again, there are many strong arguments to be made that Eisenhower is the man.
He also signed the civil rights act and enforced school desegregation, in addition to warning the public about the rise of the Military Industrial Complex on his way out of office. In fact, he’s not at all what the nazifascist cheerleaders behind the worst president in American history would ever have thought of as great, but the MAGA slogan was a lie from the very beginning. It’s a very sad time to be an American.

The one in 1957. Maybe it doesn’t deserve the definite article since the 1964 one was a bigger deal, but there have been several things called the civil rights act at the time.
The main reason I bought it up is to point out just how far apart he was from what currently calls itself the Republican Party. Neither one would approve of the other.

Political violence against the poor has always been a staple. But somehow it does not happen against the wealthy unless it’s their own doing it.

Curious how you or the person you responded to would go about exacting some kind of meaningful change on your own. There's a lack of a rallying point for the sort of action you're talking about. Some lone gunman will only serve to play into the right's hands. I've said it here before, the US has been spying on its own citizens (legally, I might add) since 9/11. There is no opportunity to create an organization to fight back. We are stuck relying on people who already have political clout, to get behind them, or else we are just chickens with our heads cut off.

The budget provides insufficient (or no) funding for future NASA flagship missions: LISA, the space-based successor to LIGO, the Nancy Roman Telescope, an already-constructed super-Hubble that’s awaiting launch, and the Habitable Worlds Observatory, the first-ever telescope that will be capable of directly imaging Earth-sized worlds at Earth-like distances around Sun-like stars, and our best hope for finding our first inhabited planet beyond Earth.
That part about super hubble kills me. This is terrible. Is there any way to redirect all my federal tax income directly into NASA? :P
