Jade Empire, baby! Finally got back around to it. I usually return to this game every so often but this is my first time playing it on a steam deck. Pretty easy control customization straight out of the box in the game itself. Also the first time playing it with gamepad in a while so lots of nostalgia from my old Xbox days.
Ooh I love that game. Definitely the most underrated Bioware game. Ever played with the Jade Empire In Style mod?
Dope lol definitely gonna check it out.
This is THE Bioware game for me, I love it so much. I remember teaching myself how to rip music from video game files because the soundtrack of this game was my JAM.
RIP Bioware, wish we got a sequel to this before you got sucked into EA hell :')
Picked No Man Sky back up, this game is so very beautiful and incredibly fun. I'm pretty sure I'm not even done with the tutorial and I've already been to several planets and I'm slowly learning the languages.
When I don't have time to dig in, Castle Crashers just got an update. Yeah, that game from Newgrounds that's nearly 20 years old. You can make your own character now.
I haven’t even heard the Castle Crashers name in YEARS. I completely forgot it even existed. I used to play it a fair bit with friends back in the day. That makes me feel old now.
That’s crazy that it got a new update. I’ll have to check it out for sure. I owned it on the 360 way back, I’ll have to buy it again on steam. $17 though seems like a lot for a 17 year old game. I’ll have to get it on sale.
Honestly, it's totally worth it. If you have any digital art skills you can make your own guy, or use any of the billion options on the steam workshop. They've also done a remaster and worked out better online play.
I'd love to get back into NMS
Character creator on CC? Wut?!
I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Forgot how much I enjoyed this game.
Since it's been a week, I thought I'd ask: how're you enjoying your FemC run of P3?
I'm progressing pretty slowly at the moment but I really like Kotone. I enjoy her cheerful front mixed with less happy emotions bubbling beneath and expect (or at least hope) for this to progress with the story. I also like that she can be played as a weirdo.
Her new events are pretty fun though they suffer from the same issue as the original route, i.e. you have to agree with people make the most of social links. I'm used to it from the first playthrough so it's not a huge deal.
The biggest surprise so far was Saori's (health committee) social link as that's not something I expected to see in the game and I'm really curious where it goes.
As mentioned in my previous post, I'm really glad I'm playing this as NG+ since it allows me to focus on the differences which are mostly present in writing. I like it.
That's pretty much all I have for now. I'll be making more posts as I progress with the game with possible longer write up at the end if I have some time (and enough thoughts for that). Playing this route makes me even more annoyed Atlus for not bothering with including it in P3 Reload but they famously hate money so it's not like one can expect much from them on that front.
I know it doesn't exactly fit the criteria, but it's had a few sales. I've been playing pal world pretty much non-Stop. I remember getting bored the first time but I don't know what feels like something has changed I'm really into it
I have to get back into Hollow Knight to get ready for Silksong, it is a need I feel in my bones
I never replay games (except for roguelites which are obviously intended to be played repeatedly); but I've replayed Hollow Knight twice and it's been pure joy each time.
I remember playing that almost a decade ago. Got a lot of nostalgic memories of it.
Still enjoying my playthrough of Sea of Stars. Currently 30 hours in and I’m liking every minute of it. It somehow reminds me of Final Fantasy VIII and I love it. The only thing that’s a minor nuisance for me is the fact that there’s no journal, I’m going pretty slomo here and there are times where I don’t play for 2 weeks and I’m like “where was I again?”
Oh, we just had this happen after not playing for a while. Booted the game up and we're in the tavern in Lucent, with no idea what to do next.
I’ve read somewhere that you should talk with everyone when you’re around the campfire. Not had any chance with that though, I usually just end up walking around until I find some place I haven’t been before.
I'm playing Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360 version) this week. It was a little fiddlier to set up emulation for but it does run well in Xenia Canary albeit with some minor graphical glitches. I'm playing on "Path of the Warrior", the harder of the two modes available to a new player.
I have mixed feelings about it so far, 9 chapters in out of 14. I can see why people call Ninja Gaiden Black a masterpiece and this game a "flawed gem". They're also surprisingly different: NGB was an adventure game with great combat - it had exploration, puzzles, platforming and even an almost Metroidvania-like hub area you backtracked back and forth through. Ninja Gaiden 2 feels like Itagaki watched a Best Action Movie Hallway Fight Scenes compilation DVD, snorted a humongous line and said "watch this drive". It's just linear murder hallway after murder hallway in a story that doesn't even pretend to make sense or have chapter-to-chapter coherence anymore.
It does have some really good design ideas though - I love the way health works in the game for example. Taking damage also reduces your maximum health, but after each combat you're healed up to your reduced maximum. The first time you interact with a Save Point restores and fully heals you, which encourages aggression and creates a similar feeling of "gotta push to the next bonfire" and imminent relief when you do find it that you get in Souls games. The rare item that increases your Max HP also fully restores and heals you, which creates an interesting decision point: can you afford to wait to cash in the HP increase in order to effectively have an extra Max Potion for a tough battle?
There is also definitely something to be said for the frenetic combat, for better or worse. NGB was still fast, but always remained measured and deliberate. NG2 combat is just pure amphetamine-fuelled rabid frenzy. When it works right it's amazing - the first chapter for example is pretty much perfection. Fighting human enemies like ninjas that let you use your whole toolkit of techniques and dismemberment strategically is where NG2 shines. However, you can see the game's famously unfinished and rushed state pretty much everywhere. Lots of fights and chapter stages feel unfun in an untested way.
Some bosses - like Genshin and Volf - are pretty good, but lots of bosses are downright bad even for a series famous for bad bosses. Gigadeath and Water Dragon are among the worst bosses I've ever had the displeasure to fight in all of gaming.
The best way to describe it then is this: 50% of the time it feels like the best action game ever made, and 50% of the time it feels like the worst action game ever made. Is that tradeoff worth it? I don't know, but the highs are damn high and getting into the combat flow in a fun fight and seeing the carnage after is something special.
I'm playing through Outward a second time. It is such a beautiful game, and I really enjoy some of the unique aspects of it like the lack of fast travel.
Do you play solo? I tried twice in coop but after some time my coop partners always lose interest.
Thought about trying to do it solo but not sure if it's as fun alone.
I only play solo, I don't have much time for gaming, and it's a pleasure to not have to consider others needs etc. for a little while.
Now that I know the mechanics better I have built a stronger character. I also used splitscreen to give my new character a few nice items from my first character, that makes solo a little easier and more fun.
Finally got my PS2 emulator working so I'm playing Tony Hawk's underground 1, Jak and Daxter: the precursor legacy.
I'm flipping between a bunch of games besides those: Disco Elysium mobile, Dead Cells, Undertale, Spiritfarer, HAAK, and Afterplace
Enjoying Powerwash Simulator on my SteamDeck this week, it's the perfect game to chill and listen to podcasts as you play.
Also been enjoying Skate 3 on the PS3, I'm pretty close to completing the game so have been working on the last few challenges.
Do you use the Steam Deck to listen to your podcasts? What's your setup?
Yep! I installed Spotify and Plexamp in desktop mode and added them as a Non-Steam apps. Then in gaming mode I just open the game and my audio player of choice simultaneously!
I decided to reinstall Cult of the Lamb since the new expansion was announced. There's a lot of stuff in that game that I straight up forgot existed lol.
Battleblock Theater and Noita, but I'm having trouble with controller support for the latter. It doesn't seem to work on Steam Deck when it's docked.
Torchlight 2
I started Crying Suns and have been very impressed with the art and the story, both the greater narrative and the script. Not sure about the combat just yet, maybe my tactics are just bad.
Overall though, I don't know how how the hell this one passed me by. Commanding a spaceship and roguelite gameplay, it's exactly the sort of thing I love.
I can’t give enough praise to Snowrunner. Need more players who enjoy simulation games!
I'm playing the first ratchet and clank on rpcs3.
I've recently got a new Retroid Pocket 5 and I've finished setting up all the emulators. Now I'm playing bits of all sorts of games trying them out on this amazing screen.
PSP is a particular highlight on this console and my regular games currently are Rock Band Unplugged, Blast Off and Tony Hawks Underground 2.
My wife has one also. Absolutely love it. And yes, the PSP emulation is top shelf.
I am almost done with Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. It's weird, but I'm enjoying it.
Space Engineers
Ares at War scenario with Industrial Overhaul and Weapon Core to make everything as complicated as possible
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is currently 30 % off. Haven't played much so far.
