Is that so outrageous? Most countries would have been better off if they hadn't had to fight in WW2. That's mainly why the US was so well off after WW2, because they entered late and almost nobody attacked them.

Attacking late was one reason, but also not having any land borders with any enemies during WW2 was probably just as big if not a bigger reason. Japan was the closest enemy, and they had to fly hours and hours just to attack the closest military base. Germany couldn't just dump tanks and troops onto US soil or send resupplies to boats/planes attacking the US.
I mean given what's been happening these last two years and given US imperial wars since 1945, World War 2 looks less like a fight between fascism and democracy and more like a battle over which flavour of genocidal white supremacy would rule: Teutonic or Anglo Saxon.

Er yeah I have the benefit of hindsight. That's how historical assessment works. My comment was on US policy since 1945 culminating in the dismantling of the pretence of international law to effect a genocide so not sure what recency bias means in that context.

So let me get this straight... you think it would have been better or roughly the same to let Hitler continue killing millions of Jewish people, gay people, black people, and Roma people because the US has allowed Israel to kill a couple hundred thousand Palestinians?
Don't get me wrong, I am very much against the genocide happening in Gaza and no longer want to live in the US based on how the rest of the country is acting now. And I get how much damage we have caused over the last 50 years. But holy shit what an unbelievably stupid take to think letting the Nazis been would have been equivalent... just wow.
We will never know the counterfactual but the paradigm that this was a black and white struggle against a genocidal regime has been completely discredited by the US sponsored genocide in Gaza. It’s clear that genocide, ethnic cleansing, and mass murder, which were once cited as justifications for destroying the Nazi regime, are now treated as non-issues when applied by the US to maintain its global hegemony. I'm being downvoted because this is a polemical and unorthodox opinion but I'm certain this will become a more mainstream view, at least in academia, now that the mask has fallen on what the US Empire really stands for.
