Of everything, this is low on the list of things to be annoyed about. While there were probably better ways, this is an area used for gatherings and DC being DC, it is pretty marshy and unusable as a lawn. There have been plans for a long time to do something like this.
- More importantly, this will be easily undone later, unlike much of the other damage he has done or plans to do. Compared to those things, I can't get too worked up over this.
- Also the actual roses were in the bushes on the side.
  I'm pretty sure they did actually get rid of a lot of the flowers anyway and got rid of things they shouldn't have, but the layout of it isn't so drastically changed and the lawn can easily be replaced.

  Ants can and do live in paved spaces. There is a layer of sand under the slabs that is easy for them to excavate tunnels from, with the entrance between two slabs.

If they weren't going to put in something useful, like clover or any actual productive plant life, then I'd rather see it capped off and no longer watered. Golf courses too for that matter. Pave them over entirely and build dense urban housing instead on a national scale.
- Yeah that grass square always seemed strange to me even as a kid, since they hosted outdoor parties for visiting foreign dignitaries and grass isn't the best surface for fancy shoes, especially women's heels. My brothers and I would sometimes wonder if it opened up to reveal a secret missile base or Aurora landing pad.
