Sameer Kanal has been a brilliant rep in District 2, which is unfortunately, not my district. But really glad to see what he's doing.
He's mine! I saw him talk when he came to our community center. It was refreshing having a politician who seemed ready to actually make positive change. Because after our last system of government, we definitely need it.
Yeah, he called me when he was campaigning and we had a really good conversation even though I couldn't technically vote for him. :(
Makes me more interested in Portland being a possible city to move to when I get out of my red state. If I can get a job there.
This is quite a new change for us. Decades of the most incompetent politicians makes me very cynical that the new regime will be any better. Usually we get a very progressive bill to vote on, one i usually agree with and want to vote for but is clear there is no system in place or even real plan to support the bill if it passes. See our recent failures in drug decriminalization and gun control. Both things I believe in, but decriminalization passed and was a complete failure and the gun control measure was so poorly thought out that it will be a decade before a reasonable measure will be proposed again. Don't even mention Wapato prison. Plenty of good intentions but absolutely squandered by incompetence.
Writing all that it still sounds better than a red state.
I'm from Ohio, that sounds immensely better.
Expanding the city council representation seems to be the key here. Candidates with 25% + 1 votes along with rank choice voting make the cut.
Tell me more, I hate capitalism.
