It’s not that I have any blind loyalty to Nintendo or anything like that. I don’t, and I’ve been pissed at many of their recent business decisions.
But the world is so unbelievably shit rn, and watching folks come out of the woodwork for the past few months to shit on Nintendo, call for boycotts, dunk on fans of Nintendo games has been a lot…
So like this? I love this news. So fucking much. I’ve been dealing with depression and family issues and potentially losing my job and my country going full fascist—so video games are one of my only brightspots. And people have made it so fucking negative to be a Nintendo fan. So I just love this middle finger to the haters. Not only were your boycotts a failure, the haters prolly gave Nintendo news-coverage and hype by removed about it so much.
And what was Nintendo’s big sin anyway? For being a corporation in a capitalist system and maximizing profits, like each and every other for-profit corporation does? Nintendo has done nothing that Microsoft, Sony, Apple, etc. hasn’t also done. So it’s been so fucking frustrating seeing hate thrown to one of the few corporations that hasn’t been fully enshittified and still makes quality products.
Nintendo isn’t perfect. By any means. But they make great products, they aren’t doing straight up evil shit (like Google), and they primarily provide fun games for children. Of all corporations to target, Nintendo really doesn’t deserve the hate campaign.
Moral of the story: don’t yuck people’s yum. Anyways—rant over! Enjoy your Switches and Switch 2s, fellow gamers!
The circlejerk has gotten incredibly tiring, especially here. Literally any mention of Nintendo in any context whatsoever has to bring a dozen people out of the woodwork to remind everyone that Nintendo is the most evil thing on the planet ever. You'd think !nintendo@lemmy.world would be a space with at least a little less negativity, but no, even here it never fucking ends. Even worse though is the amount of misinformation that gets spread in the process, people will twist anything they can to invent new things to be mad at.
There are certainly some things Nintendo does that I dislike. But I also look at the rest of the industry and I don't think they're anywhere near the worst right now. They treat their workers well, they don't push gambling-based business models on kids, they keep projects reasonably scoped instead of trying to make every single game into the next Fortnite and then shut it down when it doesn't meet that bar, their games actually feel complete at launch, and they don't fund genocide.
And they make a lot of good games that I like.
Remember, you can always block the haters. They can talk about how they are still not buying a Nintendo system and you can have a constructive discussion with people who agree with you.
You are being willfully ignorant if you think Sony has got the same negativity Nintendo has been getting recently. I have seen comments calling Nintendo a cancer on the gaming industry, calling for them to go bankrupt, etc. You can't pretend Nintendo doesn't get an undue amount of heat when they misstep. My headcanon is that the discrepancy is mostly due to 13 year olds in their edgy phase but it's still real.
I mean there's that, but there's also a number of posts and comments about how Nintendo is shit for doing something that they didn't even do. Like, there's more than enough things to give them shit for, why invent new ones?
my country going full fascist
You should share this with those people:
And what was Nintendo’s big sin anyway?
How about patenting things that weren't patented before, in order to use those things as weapons in court because another company dared to also make a cutsey-critter game?
How about not issuing notice to Pocketpair for them to correct said issues before filing a patent in the first place?
How about over-broad patent descriptions and the targeting of indie game developers?
How about their alteration of their patent mid-litigation?
Your reply reeks of ignorance.
Nintendo rarely goes after other companies for patents. They have tons of patents which can probably be used to sue half the games available these days. They do go after others very aggressively where their IP or trademark is concerned.
Pocketpair is one of the exception, though that case has it's own nuances, and they aren't such a small "indie developer" (have backing of companies like Sony, which has it's own history with Nintendo)
Well I'm certain they feel vindicated raising their prices. I'm sure the rest of the Industry will soon follow suit.
Nintendo really doesn't deserve your money, guys.
Who does tho?
What is your mega corporation of choice then? Sony or Microsoft are no better or worse. Nvidia perhaps? We are walking wallets to all of them
Valve is my choice (steam deck)
Also feels like Nintendo deserve it even less because of the recent news about ability for disabling devices (even tho the others can do the same, they dont for the same reasons).
I'm waiting for OLED. Once you go oled there is no going back.
I have lost faith in humanity. When people just keep buying scams like these they are getting just rewarded for such predatory practices.
It’s almost like people can buy and enjoy whatever they want. If you want to buy a switch2, go ahead, if you don’t, that’s cool to. Gatekeeping has no place here. People are allowed to like what they like.
I mean yes but sadly this will definitly affect others too as nowadays with globalism other companies see this and say hey people really buy any sh*t if you do it like nintendo, even cashgrabs.
Nintendo has increased the prices for some of their games, but they are far less predatory than many companies with their live-services and micro-transactions.

Aren't you just a good little consumer...
The important quote from the article
This is still very positive news for the long term viability of the Switch 2 because having a solid install base means third parties have more incentive to port games to the system.
If multiplatform games continue to be more expensive on Switch2 than on other systems, they'll probably not sell that well anyway. People usually buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. 3rd parties need to earn their place.
Example Cyberpunk:
Switch2 PS5 PC/GOGThat's a problem with most ports. It's a "new" game on Switch, and many years old game on other platforms.
Proper comparison will be for the games that are released together on Switch and other consoles.
Yeah, the first is always supply constrained, not demand constrained. We will see how it goes in year 2 and 3.
