UPDATE: Since SV is on sale right now and the post got more attention than I thought it would get (the one 2 years ago got 50 total upvotes lol), I decided to up the count of SV to give away to 3 🙂

I also decided to give one out of the three copies to a comment I personally pick.

So to recap:

1 SV Steam key each will be sent to the first and second randomly picked winner
1 SV Steam key will be given to the poster of a comment I personally pick

every year I give away a key for Stardew Valley. This is the 6th time I'm doing this. Why? Because it's an awesome game! Two years ago i did the giveaway on the Stardew Valley community here on lemmy.

To enter, just drop a top-level comment (not a comment on someone else's comment) under this post with a reason why you didn't play Stardew Valley yet. It can be a made up reason.

Your lemmy account must be older than 3 days to qualify.

From all comments that qualify, ~~one~~ two will be chosen randomly and one will be picked by me on Tuesday the 8th of July at 20:00 (8pm) CET.

I didn't play Stardew valley because I'm scared I'll get addicted and it will consume all my time, and eventually me as a whole.
- In that case, don't look up Dwarf Fortress. I've also heard good things about Factorio, but I haven't tried it yet.
  
  Or Rimworld. Tried it once while working at a mind numbingly boring internship after a month of putting it off.
  I have 6k hours now.

I haven't gotten a chance yet, as rustc is using 100% CPU & RAM.
- rustc made me learn C++
  
  And C++ compile times made me learn C. You must be jealous that my memory errors & race conditions compile faster than yours.

Don't pick me. This is just inspiration to do like my.... 5th-ish playthrough. Fantastic game and a real treat for any new farmers!

I really want to play it but steam sells the games in my country in USD, not my countrys currency and this makes it expensive and painful to buy. Not only stardew valley, almost any games

It's been on my list, and I like cozy games… I just never got around to it. And I'm cheap, so unless I noticed it on super sale, I'd put it off until later™️

My SO didn't play games until his late 30s because be started working as a teen. I introduced him to BOTW and then Minecraft and Portal. Do you think SV would be a good next game?
- If he enjoyed BOTW and Minecraft I think he would enjoy SV too :)
- SV is great, My time on Portia/Sandrock games also, but do not forget about Terraria :)

I am currently addicted to stardew, I am playing with my friend. She doesn't own the game but thanks to steam family share, she can play with me through someone elses copy.
She does want her own copy and I am commenting for her because she doesn't use Lemmy.

Heard great things, never played it before, And sounds relaxing as all heck.

Bought it on Android with rewards funds to share it with wife, so she would stop using the goddamn Duolingo and the stupid game it pushes as an advert. But hey, wouldn't mind trying it on PC in multiplayer with her I guess

I don't really have a reason that I haven't, but I keep thinking about it more and more. Especially after seeing Bobby Lee interview the creator. That was pretty cool

Why haven't I played Stardew Valley yet? Fear.

I’ve never played it because it just seems like Harvest Moon, which I played as a kid. Sure, maybe it’s refined the concept, but I already married my harvest boo when I was 12 years old. How could I dare to be unfaithful to her?

I guess the pandemic wasn't long enough to get all the way through my backlog. I've been slowly making my way through even now. I've been told it's a travesty that I haven't played yet.

Not sure why I haven't played it, does anyone know if it has co-op across platforms? Like if I install it on a linux distro will I be able to join a spouse who is playing on her Xbox or Windows?
My spouse says I never played because the aliens invaded and subsequently abducted me.
- There is cross-platform play between PC (including Linux and Mac) and mobile devices (iOS and Android). For other platforms like Nintendo Switch and Xbox, crossplay is not available, meaning you can only play with others on the same console
  You should be able to play co-op across PCs regardless of OS but console versions are not cross compatible.
  
  Thanks for this info, I installed Medieval Dynasty the other day trying to play co-op with her. Unfortunately couldn't join, I assume because I didn't have a legitimate version. Hers was paid for but I had just torrented mine in attempt to play locally. Was hoping I didn't have to pay for a game twice to play together .

Eh, why not? It's 2D minecraft AFAIK. Also, the title text recommends it.

Last game I bought was 5 bucks, and I'm still skeptical whenever it was a good investment cuz money is hard It was Oneshot, and I loved it
Not sure if I'd even like Stardew Valley
- There are mods that can make the experience way better. For me the "save anytime" is one of the most important game play improvement.

I wasn't able to play it because my PC wasn't powerful enough, but now I finally upgraded to something from this decade so now I'm good.

I have played Stardew Valley before but it was a pirated copy. I have it wish listed on steam but I only purchased two games on steam and I find the payment process to be a bit tedious. I may look into buying it someday but if I win this giveaway, then I don’t have to buy it. 🙂

I’ve never played it. I guess it got popular before ingot back into gaming, and i had some backlog from humble bundle games when they concentrated on Linux games

I never played it because I was in a bad place in life when it released.

I have played Stardew Valley before, but not on Steam. I got it on Nintendo Switch and liked it, but now I have a Steam Deck that I like even more. Haven't picked up SV yet because I don't like buying things twice...

Always looked like dollar-store harvest moon to me. I'd give it a go now that I've got some free time.
- Harvest Moon is Temu Stardew Valley. I know Harvest Moon came first. Stardew Valley does literally everything better than Harvest Moon
