BBC News and BBC Sounds launched a Discord server in late June for the Newscast podcast, letting the audience influence the news; the server has 3,700 members

They should not use discord in my opinion. That's a closed ecosystem, known for horrendous privacy violation.
- However they even opened mastodon instance
  
  and have somewhat good api but i still support the view that discord has horrible privacy. Even it shouldnt be monetized ( because of server boosts and nitro ).
