you didn't mention which lubricant, hope it wasn't WD40, as people tend to grab it for these things, but the solution usually ends being temporary
To back you up, WD40 stands for Water Displacer, 40th try.
While it does kind of lubricate, that isn't what it's meant for, and the leftover ingredients will not keep it lubricated long and possibly cause more damage in the long run.
WD40 to help restore motion to the joint, then clean, then oil. Or just oil if it moves easily.
What else are you supposed to use?
Liquid Wrench is pretty good.
A lubricating oil. I like ProTecta.
Molybdenum disulfide is really good
If you don't feel like going to the store, petroleum jelly is a half decent solution for squeaky door hinges. Lasts quite a few years too.
Exactly. Just yesterday I had to recommend someone use an actual lubricant for a lock...
Isn't graphite powder normally the best solution for locks?
I use wd40 and it's fine! The lithium wd40 i mean.
What you're saying is true in general but it works pretty well and for a fairly long time in door hinges.
All solutions are temporary bro.
It's always a joy to do that, especially if the door is frequently used. All of a sudden your surroundings get a lot nicer.
I did this with my garage door the other day. The thing squealed like crazy since we bought the house and I didn't really know how to fix it. Got some White Lithium Grease and just sprayed it into all of the hinges, greased the top rail and tightened the chain. I just love that I don't have to cringe every time I'm about to press the button to open the door.
I keep meaning to do this with my front door and haven't. I should go do that... Later tho.
Beautiful. A smooth-opening door is like a well-oiled machine. That's not quite a machine.
I need to screw in some loose screws on the door's frame, but not today...
Waxing a sticky zipper is also satisfying
Nice, I like to get all the keyholes like once a year too, makes a noticeable and nice difference
Hi, I'm a Squeaky Door ;)
