meanwhile nasa (who's trying to do the same) got it's budget slashed.

cutting the longest 14-15 hour flights down to 5-7 hours would be really cool but I would also like to bring back static airships

I would love airships, and imagine if they were designed for lower volume but so you travel in comfort where you have a room like an overnight train.

I posted a video about this tech a couple of months ago. NASA's X-59 is in the active testing stage, with its first flight planned for this year.
The main American competitor to this Chinese company right now is Boom Supersonic, whose XB-1 test plane has already flown. Their first full scale plane, the Boom Overture, is in development.
