When i leave work i force myself to not think about it anymore until the Next Working day. I Turn off work Mails etc.
I commute to work by bike, more than 30min. It somehow helps to leave work behind on my way back. While my thoughts are still work related at the beginning of my ride I think about other things when reaching home.
Sport and making music, where you have to focus on something else than your current stress are also very helpful to silence the stress thoughts.
And of course talking about it with friends.
I'm a big talker, so I have to talk about it if its bothering me. I have colleagues I use as sounding boards who are really supportive and talk me down when my stress is big.
I used to have a manager who was awful so my best mate knew if she got a text of a load of swear words then it was about him.
I do all my batch cooking, ironing etc before the week starts so the evenings are clear. I start a wind down time around 7 till 8 so that I don't look at screens or see the time, and clear my mind before bed.
Overall I manage!
When I started my most recent job, I insisted on getting a separate work cell phone. I don’t have any work stuff on my personal cell, and I don’t bring my work phone or laptop home unless I think there’s a snow storm and I’ll need to work from home. Otherwise, it all stays sitting on my desk. If there’s an emergency or I’m out sick, my boss has my personal cell number, but I otherwise keep a pretty rigid wall in between work and home - it helps a lot
That's really sensible you need a clear wall or it can get overwhelming.
I let it build for 2-3 years and then explode and burn every bridge I can at that company.
Rinse, repeat.
No this is not smart, but you didn't specify 'good ways'.
work stress used to be the main reason I would drink, lol
but now I mostly just try to actively detach from the outcomes, my problem is that I care too much, and the less I care the better I seem to manage. Even so, there are bad days still, sometimes bad weeks or months.
Its really understandable, alcohol numbs it and blots it out. You've done great getting through that! Caring is no bad thing in theory and says great things about you as a person...but it can make it hard to cope. I admire your honesty.
