Did you make Sunday roast today?

I just spent three leisurely hours in the kitchen making a Sunday roast: roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & gravy. I quite like relaxed cooking with Planet Rock on the background.

I found myself wondering if people still do this. Did you make a roasttoday, and if you did, what did you cook?

  • Nope. We generally have more of them over winter than the warmer weather as the last thing I want to do is be in a hot kitchen for a few hours when it's already hot. That said, it's nice to cook a roast while I'm watching the F1.

Yesterday I made hunters chicken in a home made BBQ sauce, with mash, carrots, peas, sweetcorn & onion rings. Went down well!

  • It's only me now, so it never seems worth the effort. I pretty much only have a roast dinner at Christmas. That said, my folks didn't do a Sunday roast often, so perhaps I just never got it in my blood as a tradition.

I went with a roast sweet potato with tuna and sweetcorn mayo (with a grated carrot and some seeds scattered in).

  • Yes I did, pork shoulder Hungarian style (inspired) with paprika and fennel, then finished the gravy with apple and pear compote.

  • I do love a roast but I'm veggie and cooking for one so don't tend to do it. Often think of them though 🤤
