What are some of your unpopular opinions, hot takes about shows, streaming services, the wider industry etc?

The Office is not good, except for the stuff that became memes

People removed about the Netflix two season treatment, but there's something to be said about a show with a solid beginning, middle, and end that can be wrapped up in one to three seasons.
I'm really tired of series that seriously overstay their welcome and can't find it in themselves to write an ending, only to be canceled before they end. What was the point of fucking meandering so much then anyway? Ricky Gervais' version of The Office isn't the most amazing thing in the world, but he knew not to drag it on endlessly like the US version did.
This is even more important for more serious shows that are praised for their writing...
...I'm looking at you, Severance, if you can't wrap it up in the next season or so, I don't really see a point to continue watching.
In the same vein, some shows need to be allowed to die a dignified death. The Simpsons needs to be put out to pasture, Futurama needs to stop being rebooted, and Family Guy should have stayed cancelled the first time.

- I think a show that plans for 2 seasons or less is great. Andor would have gotten stale at 5 seasons. Queens Gambit was only 1. We don't need everything to run on forever.
  However, that's not Netflix's problem. Their problem is that a show runner doesn't know how long their show will run, so they can't close out storylines correctly. Too many are left with open questions and cliffhangers because they were abruptly cancelled.
  
  I just read an interview with the creator of Andor, and he says that the original plan was to go five seasons, but, during the production of the first season, the massive weight of the production suddenly occurred to him, and he figured he wouldn’t have enough “calories” to get through five seasons. That’s why I got shortened to two.
- I definitely want more shows that have a clear ending in sight and a plan to get there, but the problem with Netflix is they don't set out to make a two season show, they set out to make a five or six season show, then kill it at two with loads of dangling threads.

  I took "streamers" as to mean "youtube personalities," not actual, you know, scripted shows. I think the individual talking at the camera is a bad format, and always have. Very few have leveraged it in any meaningfully artistic way, and some of the few who have turned out to be total fucking assholes, like the guy who did Americanface (which is one of the few artistic and well-done one-person-talking-at-a-camera films to this day). I still think Americanface is a pretty good film, but he turned into an anti-trans fucking bigot.

Marvel movies are utter trash

If you do a mystery show, have it mapped out from the beginning, and stick to it. For reference how to do it, see Dark.
- I couldn't get into Dark. I tried 3 times. I had a hard time keeping track of who was who, and the pacing did not work for me.
  
  It gets easier around Season 2, as the story starts to coalesce around a handful of key characters.

Most things are just a reskin of a previous work.

The ending of game of thrones wasnt good but it doesn't cause the rest of the series to suddenly suck
- I kinda feel the last season of Game of Thrones was so transcendentally bad it tainted my memories of everything good before it. I still can't bring myself to rewatch the first 5 good seasons :<
- I also don’t think it was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Yes, it was a bad ending, but I agree with you that it was a bad ending to an awesome series that I still enjoy re-watching.

  Season 4 has the Purple Wedding, Oberyn Martell & Tyrion's trial. Those were all fantastic storylines. Also season 3 ends with the Red Wedding, which is the peak of the series, so the shark was far from jumped.

Streaming services have had a noticeable negative impact on adults, in my experience most notably Gen Xers, which I see abandon lifelong hobbies to consume more netflix slop. We just aren't meant to have so many hours of passive entertainment available at the tip of our fingers
