The US wealthy are now international wealthy and borders no longer matter to them.
They see no intrinsic value in the US labor workforce, and they also see no value in educating us or paying the high salaries we demand anymore.
They're speedrunning bringing US living standards down as fast as they can. They want us begging for pennies to survive.

But I don't think it is still true.

It took several violent landgrabs and wars of aggression before Russian oligarch money wasn't welcome around the world, and those guys were all but openly affiliated with the Russian mafia from the days of the fall of the Soviet Union. I fully expect American oligarchs' money to be happily accepted just about everywhere for at least as long as it takes Trump to get around to trying to take Greenland by force.

I hear world wars are good for the economy. A sharp increase in demand for instantly disposable munitions combined with a sharp downturn in the global life expectance does amazing things to Per Capita GDP.
