What's with all the hatred that Firefox has been getting lately?

cross-posted from: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/7131235

Look at this chud video here.

It's just complaining about DEI, but why now? Apparently, Firefox has a "license" to all your data now. How much is that true? Is he just cherry-picking here, in this case? Librewolf or whatever it's called might be a better option. There's also Zen browser.

I got this in my YouTube feed and didn't know it was more anti-DEI slop and now I'm not sure what to believe. Wish they didn't have to make it so political like they accuse others of doing. Ah well. But what is this I hear about Firefox having a "license" to all your data?

I guess that's like a lot of browsers, tbh, but I suppose Firefox has higher standards, or did...

  • That user just used the recent ToU as an excuse to drag Mozilla for their activist efforts. Chuds do that, or rather, that's what chuds do. They find something that's actually bad, make valid points, and then attach their ideological points to try and trick you into thinking those are valid too. They are not.

Now, for the real issue at hand: the Terms of Use.

Mozilla has introduced these ToU for Firefox, which include a rather liberal license to use virtually everything you do in Firefox for whatever they want. Of course, they say that's not what they're going to do, but the verbiage is vague enough that a lot of people are concerned. Not to mention, a lot of Firefox users are already privacy-conscious, so this really didn't sit well with the community. They also changed some of their statements regarding selling user data, basically rolling back their promise never to do that! Concerning, to say the least.

That's why Firefox has been getting hate.

The ToU don't apply to forks such as Librewolf and Zen (and others), so those are a way to avoid your data being harvested by Mozilla.

    • Potentially harvested, but also, still probably a concern as well...

Alright, I'll consider using Librewolf or Zen, but which one do you recommend? Or there any other Firefox forks that are better or on the same level as those two?

      • There are others, such as Mercury and Floorp, but I use Librewolf. I think it's great!

It depends on your priorities. Librewolf is basically just Firefox, but with some enhanced privacy features, while Zen is like a whole different browser. I can't say what you would prefer.

Edit: Mercury is no longer developed, it seems.
