I left Reddit during the API fiasco. Tried Lemmy, ran into problem after problem. Went back to Reddit for 3 months, and go deep into the enshittification process. Signed up here today. Hoping I can settle in here!

If you're looking for communities, I would suggest starting with this nifty website It has a visual database of... (checks notes) 28,178 communities (!?!) and 563 instances to choose from.
If you're looking for content, there's nothing wrong with searching all and new. Check out !communitypromo@lemmy.ca for help finding newer communities. And here is a long list of communities that aren't political, full of memes or tech.

Wow, thanks for the suggestions! 🙏 I'm interested in nature, music, conlangs, poetry, songwriting... those are probably the main ones.
Last time a big problem was my feed would literally not change for long periods... then it would update very slowly. I was wary of signing up to instances just to make my feed flow, because that would mean my feed would be full of things I'm not interested in. But I guess I just didn't find the instances I was looking for.
Will search again now!
I've only had minor issues. Biggest problem is content. Just didn't compare. But once I've been burned, I won't go back. I don't like getting fooled once, let alone more than that.
Personally, I've lessened my overall social media usage. Even started reading books again. Feelsgoodman.

Just landed a job after two months of rejections and fighting to be noticed among 100s of other developers. The depressing winter weather and dwindling bank balance made life feel hopeless at times until I got the call.
I just got yelled at for being proactive at work and working on stuff in my downtime to complete something before our estimate and improve our product. Apparently that's a big no-no. You're not supposed to ever finish before the estimate you give nor finish past the estimate. You must work the exact amount of time that was estimated. This wasn't even my estimate. I have a much faster estimate and my boss basically doubled it, which I was like fine, sure, but I'm getting blamed for the estimate being so long now.
I'm so done with my job. If the job market weren't a literal dumpster fire right now I'd just leave. I just set my LinkedIn to "Open to Work". Sorry I have a good work ethic. Corporate politics is utter bullshit. I guess the lesson learned is don't ever tell anyone you are being proactive. Finish the work, and then literally do fuck all, and fuck off to wherever while you pretend you are working until the estimate date is reached.
