Before I spend money (15 eur is not cheap, but is worth it for this app, imo), I want to know if it's not just a visual ad removal but the data collection and all the tracking gets actually disabled. I don't want to pay for ad removal. I want to pay to keep my data mine.
It says €19 here. (a year!!) No offence for the dev. But I fucking hate subscription based services. I really wanted to support the dev and have an ad free experience. But this is imo a bridge too far. I hope many people support him. But count me out.. Sorry.
There is a new option to remove ads forever for 15. No subscriptions.
Welp, for me in Portugal it shows up as 23€....
I remember the good days when I bought Sync Pro for 2,69€...
I'm seeing AUD$35 $33.99.
I paid AUD$1.91 ten years ago for "reddit sync pro" (I believe it was on sale).
I was expecting to pay around $10-$15 to block ads, so this is a bit of a shock.
I bought Sync Pro for that.. almost 10 years ago. IMO a polished Lemmy app with that many years of experience and tune-up is worth more than the original price.
Caralho! Are you clicking Get Ultra or Remove Ads?
Yep, the ad sdk doesn't even initialize if you've paid to remove ads
How do you know? You aren't lj :)
This is exactly why I haven't downloaded it - I was looking forward to Sync for Lemmy, and I've been using Connect in the meantime. But Connect doesn't collect any data, according to Google Play, and Sync does. I'm on the fence about paying to keep my data my own, at this point.
If the ads sdk is not initialized for the paid version, and no data is collected, then there is no issue.
Will there be a pro version of this app? I would rather that as opposed to in app purchase which seems to bug out sometimes on the previous app
IIRC the Play Store has disallowed (or heavily favors against) "duplicate" apps.
Because that means you must allow them to dig in their drm far deeper, and thus lock all your users deeper into google play over just android. Very similar to their push of safetynet and their new web drm.
In practice for users right now it means a less stable experience, and all kinds of weird problems in usecases like work profiles. Plus all the things they'll abuse this for once enshittification gets going on that section of the google play system
The dev has stated that this exact bug was fixed over a year ago. As for this version of Sync, should still be fixed, but I will remind you and anyone else reading this, this release is a BETA. There will be bugs. It's getting a lot of attention in media, so that seems to be lost in translation so to speak, but it's still not officially fully released. :)
I previously purchased Sync for Reddit to remove ads, will I need to do a separate purchase for Lemmy?
Yes. Sync for Lemmy is a completely different app.
It's something like 10% different, let's not get too excited here
Lol. Keep dreaming. Not only do you need to do a separate purchase for lemmy. (which is more then fair!) The price is now €19. But wait. There is more! It is a price per year.
Edit: A one time purchase option to remove ads is available now! (€22 though..)
There is a one time purchase option. The subscription is for features that need additional cloud services.
The app just got updated with a 1 time purchase option for ads removal.
I paid to remove ads and support the developer because Sync is my favorite app for the past decade.
Having said that, I think the price is steep. I understand development has its cost and so I am more than willing to do my part, but this is going to be a hard sell for my friends or some others for sure.
The app is amazing though and I'm so happy to be back on Sync.
NextDNS seems to block the ads. I just get a blank box that says "sponsored content" lol
