This always bugged me a little, but when I saw how much support the mobile Animal Crossing game got, it really made me sad. They poured money and development resources into that game, but left the full price, multi million seller behind after a year, and it still lacks many features of its predecessors. I love the game and still play it off and on, but damn. It could have really been the pinnacle of the series.
The 3DS still sold 10 million units after the Switch launched, so it's not impossible. One could argue the Switch is the successor to both 3DS and Wii U, but it's hard to compare. If they price it right and try to clear stock, I think they can totally do it. Would also be something to brag about, but then again it's not really Japanese business culture to brag, so maybe that's not the biggest motivator for them.
Not that it has any effect on us personally, but I am still a wee bit salty that Sony just added few millions to PS2 sold when Switch got closer to crossing it.
I think it’s very likely. They sold 15M units in
2024, and not all markets will jump straight to Switch 2. I’m sure they will sell at least 10M in 2025.
