Yeah, the issue with Bluesky is that it’s just shifting the problem from one oligarch-owned service to another. Mastodon would have been a much better choice, but Bluesky had an algorithmic feed like Xitter so that’s what people flocked to.
I know way too many people who only used Twitter for sports. But after /r/nfl and /r/nba and all the sports subreddits blocked Twitter, I think a lot of the organic sports activity will die off.
Anyway, Elon and his cronies have haphazardly taken over basically every single civillian Federal Government computer system, while everyone was struggling with the extreme potential inconvenience of not using a social media platform run by and for fucking Nazis.
It's kind of fine if it becomes just another Truth social though, isn't it? Kind of a containment zone. The big problem is if it's the one place where everyone is.
It’s good to have competition anyway. Twitter was getting too popular. There should be lots of options. Even if some of those options cater to a specific crowd. MAGAs, teens, people who think Tiananmen Square is just a geographical location.
This feels like wishcasting. As long as they can fake their numbers, I guess it doesn't really matter because nobody calls anyone out on anything.
Tesla's stock price seems unaffected by Musk bullshitting the most recent earnings call, or not enough to matter. Its still above $400 a share and this is after he finally admitted current hardware can't actually do FSD.
The market is full-on irrational and invested in being irrational. Capital always aligns with fascism in the end. They will believe the bogus metrics fed by these companies for their "engagement." The same people who fell prey to Elizabeth Holmes can't see that all those profiles on Facebook and X are AI generated and automated.
I got into an argument tonight with someone. They tried to argue against my comment. "The entirety of the stock market is speculation". They didn't get very far.
I was trying to explain exactly this to them. The market is irrational and wrong.
@SatanClaus@SnotFlickerman
There's a big hand in all capital markets.
All the wealth in the world is in the hands of a few people
When investing in stocks, we tend to focus on the interest returns, but the big capitalists focus on our capital.
Bluesky and Pixelfed are pretty good arguments for at minimum logging out of Twitter/Facebook/Instagram if not going all the way and closing your accounts there entirely.
And I bet Meta's recent Linux crackdown is going to start steering people away from Facebook and Instagram to boot, because what if it doesn't stop at Linux and goes full-blown mass censorship of anything Meta corporate doesn't like?
I wonder why Twix didn't catch on as a mockunominal for that social media platform. Mars or whoever owns the brand missed an opportunity. On the other hand, I haven't had one in a long time, but I recall Twix being a particularly delicious treat, so perhaps it is best that name not be besmirched.
