Could it be "over another person"? Asshollery is kinda universal
This. The worst person I've ever worked with happened to be a woman. She was an awful human being.
That's odd because I don't often see men talk over other men at meetings, but women can't generally finish a sentence without a man trying to talk over her.
That's odd. I always see it the other way around and men don't speak up for themselves because the loud woman then tries to play this card, so everyone just has to take the abuse.
You can try say, "Bec, you need to let people finish, especially if they're answering you."
But a complaint will go to HR.
Funnily enough the organisation I frequently sub to is the diametric opposite of that - it’s normally the women telling the men to stfu and concentrate on the matter being discussed. Us men are a belligerent lot, though, but we do get the job done and none of us have nanked each other yet. Fingers crossed.
I'm so guilty of talking over other people and I hate it. Please fix me.
Especially in online meetings with no camera. Without seeing body language, I often think people are done talking so I start talking, but they were just resting between sentences. Oof.
Online is the worst--I think the slight delay is a big factor as well. We both start before either realizes the other was speaking and it's very uncomfortable.
But also I'm just a bad interrupter. I often have an idea I'm so excited about I just blurt it out without even thinking about the fact that someone else is in the middle of speaking. I don't know why I'm like this, I've tried to stop and I have made some progress but it still happens way too much. Best progress I've made so far is rudely start talking, realize 1 second later I should not have, apologize, and tell the other person to keep going.
Realizing you want to improve is the first step to growing into a better person!
I'm in the same boat, but one day I just stopped talking and started listening, mostly as a social experiment on myself. Now everyone thinks that I'm really smart. It tears me up inside sometimes, but I like the outcome.
"Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue."
If they had something more important to say they would say it louder
It's not the crime people claim it to be IF you aren't trying to deliberately down others out.
women aren't special ; i talk over everybody
The woman in my dept talks over me and the other dude all the time, she's very interrupt-y. She's great though we still love her, funny af and knowledgeable. It certainly isn't gender specific.
SORRY WHAT? I COULDN'T HEAR YOUR COMMENT.
In all fairness, there was 12 minutes left in the meeting and Bob has been waiting for the seniority members to shut up for 24 minutes to get a single word in edgewise.
Sometimes there are benefits to being an androgynous transfemme with an unfortunate case of "Dr. Girlfriend Voice"
As a child watching venture bros I never questioned Dr girlfriends voice. Actually watching through as an adult, def made me lulz
If I get interrupted talking 3 times in a meeting I get up and walk out. This isnt beers with the boys or brunch with the gals, if my opinion cant be respected in full I have work to do.
I've worked remotely for years. With the "raise hand" options its usually a very "talking pillow" type of taking turns.
Rarely there's back and forth but it's clear when someone talks over another and you can thankfully mute people.
I believe the old Internet can provide us with the most appropriate response:
"Shut up and make me a sammich."
and only woman because the same dude does not talk over everyone.
/s ?
(just assuming as I had a similar sarcastic response to this comic)
I love how the men who can't help but pipe up about how "ackchyually" this isn't the case because reasons all magically happen to anecdotally be the statistical anomalies of what decades of research (not to mention their reflexive reaction) has repeatedly proven is a real problem that exists across all walks of life.
Like pretty much all posts about anything even remotely feminism related, it is a self selection mechanism that they just can't help but react to.
