Joe Biden commutes sentences of 37 out of 40 federal death row inmates | The clemency action applies to all federal death row inmates except three convicted of terrorism or hate-motivated mass murder
So Biden is generally opposed to the death penalty, but made a few exceptions. Kind of interesting to see where someone draws the line of what is punishable by death and what isn't. Objectively, all of these people are horrible, but three of them are so horrible that they should be killed. It kind of seems like it's not really a philosophical opposition to the death penalty but a slight shift in the line.
Now who is really punished by that action; the 37 people who are forced to continue living or the three, who will eventually end the suffering prematurely?
It is a philosophical question and there are different perspectives.
