What are you playing this weekend? 2023-06-24

Hello Everyone!

Time for another update on our gaming progress!

I am still playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingom. About 65 hours in. Small non-spoiler update next, those who want to avoid it can move to next paragraph. I am going for the last regional quest, and have found 60+ shrines. As for exploration, have done about 1/4th of Depths and Sky Islands, and activated all Sky towers, though there's still a lot to find.

I mentioned resuming Animal Crossing, but it didn't went far. My wife is completely back into it, but I haven't played it much, whenever I am on Switch I just want to play Zelda.

In non-Nintendo world, just downloaded Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, going to start playing it with my kid. Going to be our first beat 'em up together, if I am not forgetting any.

Other than that, also planning to give Monster Hunter: World another try, this time with a group of friends.

That's all from me. What are you all up to? What are you playing?

  • I've taken a step back from gaming this week. It was a busy one.

Still, I'm making pretty good progress on totk. Great game.

I got a 4070 for my birthday. So I tore my whole PC apart to dust out every nook and cranny. It replaced an R9 290. Other specs: 24 GB DDR3, i7-4790K running on Z97, 1 TB NVMe SSD and 8 TB HDD (I don't mind a loading screen)

I previously had 4 3,000 RPM server fans keeping it cool because I was running dual R9 290s in the thing air cooled. When you have two 94° cards, there's a ton of hot air coming from the thing. It'll heat a room quite effectively.

I'm down to a single 140mm 700 RPM fan in back and a single 120mm 800-2000 RPM fan in front. It's gone from being as loud as my vacuum cleaner to near silent. And in testing, my GPU never hits 70°. My 290 ran 85-90 playing Wind Waker with Hypatia's HD texture pack. My 4070 doesn't even get to 50° after an hour of play. And my intake fan doesn't even have to ramp up. It's so nice having a quiet PC again.

It's gonna be pushing 100°F outside this weekend so I'll be staying inside and hiding from the weather. Maybe I'll mow on Monday morning since it's supposed to be a lot cooler. Need to replace my busted garbage disposal. But when I'm not doing those things, I'll probably STILL be playing Tears. I think I'm up to 70 hours.

    • Wow, I didn't understood most of what you said, except, you got a better GPU and what was quite a load for previous one, is nothing for this one. And your PC is quieter because of that.

That sounds great. Congratulations on your new gear. Are you planning to play something to test the limits? Something that will make it scream too?

Good luck hiding from the weather and playing more TotK!

  • I am concentrating on tackling my backlog! This week I’m prioritizing Varriable Barricade, Amnesia memories and maybe a few routes from The crimson flower

    • A wide range of games!

It's nice to keep the backlog short, just don't force yourself to play anything, that burns you out.

  • Since I finished TotK last week (got 100 hours out of the game), I decided to take a break from it for a while and instead focus on my switch backlog.

I'm about to finish a game called In Other Waters. What I initially thought would be just a chill exploration game became a really immersive narrative experience with turn of events which really caught me off guard. I'm definitely interested in more games from the developer, I heard great things about their subsequent game Citizen Sleeper.

Other than that, I started playing Blaster Master Zero 2. I played the first one last year and really enjoyed my time with it, and the sequel so far seems to be as good as the first one.

Outside of Nintendo ecosystem, I'll also probably boot up PS5 for a few hours and try to get more trophies out of Unravel 2.

  • I've been playing mostly Tears of the Kingdom and Fallout 76

    • How are you liking Fallout 76? I am a big Fallout fan, but after the abysmal 76 launch, and all the memes, I have stayed away from it.

Have the improved the game? And how's the gameplay now?

      • The community is fantastic for the most part, we seen to help each other which I love. There's a lot more things to do now, it's still kinda buggy but still fun. They added NPCs which makes things so much better. My advice is find a friend or two on the game and explore the world together. If you have a playstation I'd be willing to play some time.

  • I plan to continue playing original Metroid prime and start to play Super Mario Galaxy again.

  • I keep playing TotK and I'm also 65 hours in. I'm taking my time exploring, doing side quests and shrines every now and then. I haven't even been to the south west part of Hyrule!

I'll probably be playing Mortal Kombat 11 (just got all the DLC at 70% discount on the eshop today) and probably some Overcooked 2 or beat em ups with my girlfriend.

I'm supposed to be getting the physical version of Doom Eternal next week from Limited Run Games, looking forward to that!

    • I just went to South west part one day before. Was holding on the final regional quest before that and doing some side quests. What made me go there instead of doing some more exploration was the Tears. Need to know more of the story!

MK11 is fun. I am not a big MK player, but playing both 10 and 11 as they were available on PS+. I am looking forward to MK1, looks exciting. What do you think about it?

Doom is great, have fun with your physical copy!

  • splatoon 3 and Trails to Zero

    • Nice! How are you liking Trails to Zero? I want to complete the Trails in the Sky series first, have played first on steam, was hoping for the Switch release, but I guess I would have to complete the whole series on PC.

  • If this anhedonia streak continues, I'll probably dick around for an hour or two on Guild Wars 2, drop an hour into Vermintide II, maybe load up an emulator and play a couple of SNES games, then ultimately end up listening to a podcast while I play spider solitaire.

  • Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door. I prefer the GameCube and Wii era because my childhood.

    • Really fun game. Personally, I like the newer ones as well (especially Origami King) but I take them for what they are: a different series by the same name. Although I'm probably a bit of a heretic since Super Paper Mario is my favorite.

      • I actually did get Origami King on release year, it's the best of the new games for sure. I did play Super Paper Mario a while back as well. I remember liking the flip mechanic, and that it had the best story.

  • I've been playing TotK since release, and it finally feels like I'm approaching the end of the main quest. I'm not quite ready to be done yet, though: I wanna at least complete all shrines!

  • I'm still mostly playing TOTK. I completed the main story earlier this week, and normally that would kind of trigger a switch in my brain to lose all interest in side quests, but somehow it's managed to keep me interested.

The direct reminded me that I have barely started Mario + Rabbids Kindgom Battle, so been playing that a bit too.

Then to wind down I've been getting closer and closer to completing the all the normal Picross puzzles in Picross S2

  • Splitting my time between Cassette Beasts on Switch and D4 and FFXVI on ps5. Cassette Beasts is a great palate cleanser between heavier games.

    • I am keeping an eye on Cassette Beasts; and D4 and FFXVI are highly anticipated games.

How are you liking all of them?

      • @slimerancher D4 is extremely buggy but feels so good to play. Really enjoying that one. FFXVI is gorgeous but I haven't gotten far yet. Cassette Beasts is super cute and has a LOT of depth to it. Overall very happy with all three of them and would recommend to anyone who likes these genres of games.

  • I went back and restarted Metroid Prime Remastered. Such an incredible game, and it's so much fun going through it a second time now that I'm more familiar with the game. I'm navigating much more confidently and creatively. Such a good title

  • I’m playing Pikmin 1 HD (I couldn't really wait for the physical edition as I had previously stated). I'm having a blast so far, played 6 days and got 10 spaceship pieces.

I remember being terrified of the time constraint in the game (30 days to get 30 pieces) when I first played it 20 years ago, but my experience with Pikmin 3 makes the game really much more manageable and enjoyable now. The Switch version, even if it's a simple HD port with some very minor tweaks, is really enjoyable.

Looking forward to starting Pikmin 2 HD, probably next week.

    • Yeah, I was a bit on the fence about 1 & 2, but KotActually made a post about it yesterday, giving a mini review on the state of Pikmin 1, and I am quite excited about it now.

Looking forward to finally have the time to play it.

  • Patient gamer, I'm still on BotW. Turning over every rock, checking every tree and puddle.

    • Hello fellow Patient Gamer, this is one of the few times where I broke my patience. Another recent one was XC3, but I still have a few games from 2017 (and before, for PS4) to play. 😀

How far along are you in BotW? And how many hours?

  • I've paused ToTK for a week or so (35 hours in, only 1 regional questo done lmao) but I may resume this weekend. I need to catch up or I'll never finish that game at this rate, wish I had more time...

Other than that, eventually I want to give MH: Rise another try. Bought it on switch when it came out, played it for a week then dropped.

  • I have TOTK to play, but I don't have the attention span for video games anymore. I still have another voucher as well. Probably get fire emblem, but no idea how much I'll play either.

    • Well, things happen, life changes, we change. I don't know anything about your life, but in general, if your attention is diverting, maybe it means you aren't enjoying the gaming as much, and perhaps need to take a break.

Or if you are just tired of long games, try some smaller indies, or arcade style games.

Either way, don't worry too much about it. Games are an entertainment, and if you aren't finding them entertaining right now, there is nothing wrong with moving on, at least for a while.

  • Still ToTK. I started strong when it first came out, but haven't had as much time until recently.

  • Pokémon Sword, surprisingly enough! Still have some Dynamax Adventures to wrap up. Aside from that, I'll probably sweep my SV raids to see if I can land a shiny Gimmighoul, then go back to TotK.

  • Still playing EO3, but debating digging into something else too. Just not sure what I'm in the mood for. :)

    • Maybe try some non-Pokemon monster collecting game, there are many good ones available. Or some puzzly game, like Ghost Trick?

      • Some good suggestions. I'd heard of Ghost Trick and that one did look interesting. :)
